Ok, I know China cheated by having an underage girl on the squad....but would you really feel proud in winning due to that, when the team with the underage girl beat you? Does being underage give you some advantage in gymnastics I guess?
I remember reading somewhere that indeed, younger girls do have an advantage when it comes to gymnastics.
I think so. The smaller/lighter you are, the easier it is to balance yourself, for example. There are probably differences in flexibility when comparing age groups, too.
Going back and reading some of the original posts in this thread is pretty amusing now that the truth is out. There sure were a lot of people going on and on about how Chinese people just "look young" and how because it's China, that MUST mean they're cheating. I'm sorry, but I remember the girls in the 2000 Olympics.....they actually looked OLDER than the girls from the 2008 Olympics. There is no WAY those girls in Beijing were of age......I guess we're gonna find out about it in 2018. The IOC is almost as impotent as Bud Selig when it comes to being a governing body. What a joke.
8 years later? No one even cares anymore about the 2000 Olympics, or at least not in the US. Maybe in China this news breaking out is a big deal. In 2016 when the 2008 Chinese gymnasts are exposed for being underage no one will care about this either. Someone should make it a goal to bump this thread up in 2016, but the point is that China benefited from cheating and no one will care if they are stripped because they already had 8 years of glory.
This age limit is ****ing r****ded. You need to be 16 to compete? Don't these idiots know that some people age differently? I mean by 16 most girls are already too heavy to be doing some of those gymnastic routines. Not only that it's more dangerous at an older age and more injury prone. I mean being a gymnast is pretty short live.
Wouldn't older girls have more strength? Anyways I don't know why people are surprised by this, countries try to cheat all the time in the Olympics, hell wasn't half of our 2000 track medals striped because of steroids?
whoa! nice find SF! what's next? Underage basketball players in the NBA? Aaron Brooks perhaps? theSAGE
