There's might be something to that but we've still seen "home calls" made this playoff season. In baseball the homefield advantage is very real with the home team always getting to bat last. Also familiarity with the unique conditions of each park. The Stros and Nats are great road teams so I think this is more a matter of the quality of the teams rather than structural reduction of HFA.

The Stros might've been overconfident coming into the series and the Nats might've been overconfident that they could finish them the Stros off. This was why in 1995 it was so critical for Rudy T to not allow the Rockets to celebrate their game 2 victory and keep the pressure on them.
