Verlander leading the majors with a WHIP of 0.73. Second in Ks behind Cole with 89. Number one in innings pitched. He's pretty good, that guy.
He will if he keeps this up. He's on pace to obliterate the numbers he put up in his 2011 Cy Young/MVP season. We're only 30% of the way through the season.
Gurriel hit his 3rd career Oppo-HR tonight. Stros have HRs in 18 consecutive games -- matching the '00 squad (first season @ Enron). 2017 team did 19 (franchise record, I think). Stros have homered in every win this season. Verlander hasn't allowed a three-run HR (or GS) as an Astro. No Jinxes
25 wins are possible. Hasn't been done in 40 years. The offense flipped at least four of his Dubs into L's last season. This should plenty less this season due to the offensive improvement.
Since they started 2-5, the Astros are 31-11. That's a win pace of around 119 games. Even @Tomstro thinks that's good.....
PSA...the Athletic is shoving right now with their MLB coverage. Rosenthal just put up a great article that summarizes the different ways Astros analytics and overall environment has helped pitchers improve, develop over past couple of years.
If I'm not mistaken, they're 15-2 in their last 17 games. What's scary is they can't put any distance between themselves and the other top teams in MLB cuz they keep winning too. The good news is the Yankees, Rays, and Red Sox have to play each other bunch since they're in the same division. We'll see if the Twins can keep this up.
