LOVE this highlight of Altuve's bomb. Also, before that blooper by Springer to tie it....did I hear them correct where they said he was 5 for his last 56? ouch.
I'm pretty sure it's actually a longer stretch of struggles. He's in a pretty epic funk right now. Poor ABs and some bad luck with deep fly balls. Just means a Springer hot stretch is coming eventually.
Interesting stats came up during the game. A lot of people want Abreu, but since the end of May Gurriel is actually trending up and Abreu is trending down. Or did we want Jose for DH, in which case I don't think he is doing better than Gattis either lately. I guess I wouldnt mind him but I would rather get a LF bat and a reliever.
Not sure we need (i.e. we don't) an upgrade at DH anymore-- Gattis is doing great and a bonus 3rd catcher to boot. The only position I could see us upgrading is LF and relief as you point out, but I wouldn't sell the farm for either of those and actually our LF rotating outfield slot (Kemp, Marisnick, Gonzalez) not to mention Tucker-- I feel like we are pretty good. Another nails reliever would be fun, but a luxury at this point. It's kind of fun to be in a position where we don't have to upgrade! Most suggestions I see on here would be seemingly lateral moves to what we already have in house, not to mention the farm bats that could surprise.
I don't follow "every" Astro game, but the ones I do, he does nothing. He has a career batting average of .265 and is currently batting .266. He appears to be a decent fielder, but the outfield is usually where the "power" comes from. Well, it doesn't come from him.
So, it's a shame you missed the Tuesday game where he had two big hits and drove in 2 of the 5 runs. It's also a shame that you missed the Wednesday game where he had 3 hits, including driving in 2 of the 5 runs. Those were two really good and exciting games.
Reddick isn't as good as Bregman, Altuve, Springer, and Correa. He gets on base at a good clip which is more important than power. He has moderate power. He's a decent defender. He's an average to above average starting player mostly because he doesn't have a huge weakness besides being a LHB.
a LHB who since becoming an Astro has hit over .300 against LHP. He is what you called him. No team has 9 great players in the lineup. Hell, the '98 Yankees had Chad Curtis start 151 games in LF.
