I bet the AFC South will collude and give the Colts a win each, to make sure the Colts don't get another franchise QB. 49ers or the Redskins gotta do worse than 3-13.

It is costly, but a lot of teams do it.

Are you serious? The punter is very much so a part of special teams...yes he does not make up the ENTIRE special teams but he is a focal point of it

    Per WTHR 13:

INDIANAPOLIS - Eyewitness News has learned Colts quarterback Peyton Manning will likely miss the start of the season.
Several sources tell 13 Sports that Manning will not play in the season opener in Houston next Sunday. Sports Director Dave Calabro was told that the MVP quarterback is being re-evaluated by several doctors because of slow progress from neck surgery.
Another media report surfaced Sunday night that Manning could need a third surgery and could be out indefinitely, but Team President Bill Polian told Sports Illustrated he knows nothing about that.
Manning said last week that he's doing everything possible to get back on the field.
"I'm all about helping the team be a better football team. Our goal at this point is to start off with a season one win and I want to do whatever I can to make that happen. So my goal is to certainly be out there playing, but when I'm not doing my rehab or trying to get myself better, ready to play, I'm doing what I can to help Curtis (Painter) and to help Kerry (Collins)," Manning said.
Indianapolis Star columnist Bob Kravitz joins Dave Calabro on the 13 SportsJam at 11:15 p.m. Sunday to discuss the Colts and more about the Manning situation.

They obviously liked him better than anything else they had. They were short a G.

Yesterday I mentioned that the point spread moved from -3 to -5.5 in the Texans favor over the last couple of weeks. Now it's at -8.

Vegas must really like the signing of Brett Hartmann. I can't think of another reason why it moved so quickly. ;)

Yeah, this is kind of mind boggling. Our punting has been piss poor for 10 years and with the opportunity to go out and get one of a few proven guys (any one of whom would have immediately become the best punter in franchise history) to fill the spot, the Texans opt for the guy they cut a week ago? WTF?

Anybody think the Texans really though that the best punter available was the one they just cut?

I have no problems signing Hartmann over Graham. Yes, Graham is much better, but throw in salary cap implications...the Texans are among the handful of teams right near the edge of the cap. Its more of a financial move than anything, I would guess...and as mentioned, punting wont be as critical for the Texans, given their ability to move the ball in between the 20's.

I guess. Graham likely would've only been paid the minimum, but since it's his 8th year, his minimum would be $810K. The rookie minimum is $375K.

Maynard has been in the league 14 years and would have been paid more than Graham. So if salary considerations were an issue, why did they cut Hartmann and keep Maynard temporarily instead of cutting the vet punter first?

I'd still rather have Matt Dodge who's only in is second year.

Hartman did a few kickoffs during the preseason, and he consistantly put it deep into or out of the end zone. Rackers did not. Maybe that weighed into their decision.

The Texans weren't the only team interested in Thomas Austin. St. Louis and Indianapolis also put in claims for him. Since the Texans had a worse record than the other two, they were awarded the rights to Austin.

One of the changes to the CBA that everyone agreed to is that a third string QB can be on the roster but not take up a roster spot. Basically every single team is going to carry 3 QBs this year because there is really no reason not to unless you don't want to pay that third string guy any money.

Point spread moved another half-point today. It is now 8.5.

    Interesting stat from McClain:

I believe that for the cap, if a player is paid the minimum, even if they are a 10 year vet, they only count against the cap as the rookie minimum.
