The team we played today, potentially the only unbeaten team after tonight, had the worst record in the NFL last year. They're pretty much guaranteed a playoff spot at this point. The Seahawks made the playoffs in Carrol's first year, albeit at 7-9. The 49ers made the NFC title game in Harbaugh's first year and the Super Bowl in his 2nd. The Colts made it back to the playoffs the year after they had the 1st pick. And they're probably going to win the division this year. It's not uncommon for new coaches to turn their teams around and make the playoffs really quickly. Taking 6 years to make the playoffs isn't that impressive. It's better than not making the playoffs, but coaches don't usually get a 6th year if they haven't made the playoffs in the first 5. Kubiak is tied for the 4th longest tenured coach in the NFL. Of the 5 guys ahead of or tied with him (Belichick, Marvin Lewis, Tom Coughlin, Mike McCarthy, Sean Payton), 4 of them have won Super Bowls. There's something wrong with that.
Exactly, thats why its time to move in a different direction, finally make a major change at the top. Texans would have to have an epic run to close out this season before I even consider it being a good move to bring Kubiak back at this point.
It took Kubiak one year to make a joke of a franchise into a respectable one. The point here is that things can be turned around rather quickly. Even after the 6-10 yearh (the second one) they rebounded with a 12-4 year...so it's not like he himself hasn't done it before.
Yup, there is no core...Manning, Joseph, Antonio, Wade Smith, OD, etc...this team will look a lot different next season.
Read Cannonball's last post, it sums it up quit well. Kubiak doesn't deserve much credit for this organization brief turnaround. The league has caught up to Kubiak sorry play calling and because of it the team will forever be limited because he probably isn't going to change.
Duane Brown, Meyers, Andre Johnson, Foster, Jonathan Joseph, Watt, Smith... We don't have a list of guys that need replacing, we have depth issues, a need at RT, and a need for another ILB.
Meh, he deserves all the credit for that. So are we just going to ignore any of his success and credit all failure of the team to him?
The bottom line is that overall under Kubiak, the Texans have underachieved. He's done nothing special enough to warrant continued chances at this point.
This mess started off when Rick Smith obliterated a great o-line because he couldn't manage the cap properly. Also...signing Schaub to a big contract before the season started, choosing a heartless stiff Ed Reed over a younger and hungrier Glover Quin.
Put down the kool-aid. Brown has not been good this season. Not even pro-bowl reserve good. Myers will be 33 next season. Andre sadly is now injury prone And will also be 33 next season. Foster is injury prone and if you count J Joe as your core you are deluded.
The year they lost against the Ravens they over achieved. I think mostly he had the disfortune of going against Manning every year. I'm not arguing for giving him chances...I'm saying teams can turn it around pretty quickly, as BAD as Kubiak is (according to some here) he's done so twice now. I agree. The cap situation is what has hurt this team more than ever. Said it at the start of the year they should have signed a vet OLinemen instead of Reed. Brown has been plenty good this year, not sure where that is coming from. Myers has also been good. Andre has started every game thus far, Foster was like 2nd in rushing before this game and is still top 5... Joseph is still plenty good. These are guys that you don't have to replace regardless. You list them off as if they all need replacing.
