There was some discussion in the SHSU vs. TAMU-CC thread, but I think it deserves its own thread. http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/soul/sports/m-baskbl/auto_pdf/07-soul-tourney-bracket.pdf Thursday, March 8 - Sunday, March 11 Opening Round Game 1 (Noon Thur) - #2 Sam Houston vs. #7 Lamar Game 2 (2:30PM Thur) - #3 Northwestern State vs. #6 Stephen F. Austin Game 3 (6:00PM Thur) - #1 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi vs. #8 Southeastern Louisiana Game 4 (8:30PM Thur) - #4 McNeese vs. #5 University of Texas at Arlington Semifinals Game 5 (6:00PM Fri) - Game 1 Winner vs. Game 2 Winner Game 6 (8:30PM Fri) - Game 3 Winner vs. Game 4 Winner Championship Southland Conference Championship Game - Sunday 1:00PM (ESPN2)
I guess SHSU getting the crap timeslot is what happens when you blow a chance to get the #1 seed on your home court over the weekend. Is this the first time the tournament isn't being held at the #1 seed's home court? The venue is 5 minutes from where I work, but the 12pm slot makes it impossible to catch the first game. At least I can catch Sam playing in Game 5, as we no doubt will be. Go Beerkats!
The past few years, the games were held at the higher seed's homecourt. So TAMU-CC would play SLU in Corpus, SHSU would play Lamar in Huntsville, etc. Before that, I think the location was on a rotation basis where the highest seed would have the option to host if the host didn't make the tournament. (That's still the way the location for Southland Baseball Tournament is decided.)
Well, even though my alma mater isn't eligible for the postseason for a few more years, I'd just like to give a shout out to the University of Central Arkansas Bears. I can't wait until we finally make the big dance and I get to go watch them get trounced in the first round by a #1 or #2 seed.
Yeah, it all depends on which guy shows up for SHSU: This guy: Or this guy: That joke never gets old!
I'm hoping for one. But honestly, Lamar doesn't have the guards to beat a good-shooting perimeter-oriented team like Sam. They just have to play their game hope that Sam has a poor shooting night.
Eat 'em up Kats! Too bad the guys don't get more local coverage. The only news coming out of Huntsville is executions and student murders.
Student murders? What the hell is going on in H-ville? I miss college, I don't particuarly miss living in Huntsville. I've only been back twice since 1999.
Sam Houston Fans, Take a look at today's USA Today Sports Section. Ryan Bright is the star of the Conference Tourney summary page.
I think I heard about a guy up there who murdered his ex girlfriend a week or so ago. That's the only one I know of. Hopefully there isn't another one I don't know about.
Last semester around November I think a student murdered a girl he had dated a few times and then committed suicide. That's the last student murder I can remember.
Wasn't she a cheerleader? This is the story I remember: http://www.click2houston.com/news/10457045/detail.html
Here's how I'm keeping up: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/scores107/107067/NCAAB762113.htm Wish I could watch it in person. It's 5 minutes from where I am right now.
