They were 10th in yards, 7th in passing yards. Scoring and rushing, they weren't great - 18th and 22nd. So their scoring was built around Andrew Luck, who moved the ball better than the defense stopped the ball. And they were outscored for the season, so they also won with a lot of luck and by winning close games.
What? They were 14th in the 3rd down defense: http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/downs/sort/thirdDownConvPct/position/defense/year/2012 They were also 20th in total 1st downs allowed and given that they were 22nd in points allowed, they clearly weren't getting a lot of stops. In addition to their sucks in scoring and yards given up on defense, they were also worst in the league in defensive penalty yards given up. There's simply no argument that Indy had a good defense last year.
take away the Bears and Patriots games last year where they got destroyed, the Colts defense in 2012 wasnt bad at all. Luck just kept turning the ball over in the negative side of the field
Why would you arbitrarily take away games where the defense sucked? I do agree that if you take all the games they sucked, they didn't suck. Similarly, if you take away the games where they were good, then they weren't good.
the Colts were not as bad as people made them out to be last year, their defense was respectable. werent they top 10 in takeaways last year as well
No. They were tied for 15th. This is the 2nd stat you've completely made up. You realize these stats are available to the public, right?
