You didn't watch all the games with Martz running the offense, I did. This was a letdown but still plenty of time to correct the issues. If not for the fake field goal this game would have taken a very different direction, Cutler wouldn't have been trying to force everything so much in the 2nd.
Exactly. Everyone will pile on Cutler......but what the hell can the guy do when he has ZERO time......ZERO. Stop hating and watch the game people. When you don't have time to do a 5 step drop????? Bad things happen..........
Neither of these teams scare me anymore. Week 6 and Week 10 should both be W's for the Texans. Not saying it'll be easy, but I think if these teams are going to have offensive issues like this (even with the defense that was played in this game), they aren't going to beat the Texans.
Cutler is such a bad QB when he scrambles...just really bad...sure the Bears Line is terrible...but still...
Cutler doesnt have the mobility. watch Romo, the O-line in Dallas is very bad too, but he scrambles and keeps looking for the open target.
since his inception as a starter, crazy 8 has "game managed" his way to 300 yard games on teams that are heavy with the cover 2. he will pick apart that defense. their running game should not be taken lightly though.
Cutler will get all the bad press but the game plan was just bad, Tice just let Matthews do whatever he wanted and never adjusted. Cutler held on to the ball a few too long on some of those plays but other times he's was having to dodge defenders just to set his feet, if he could.
Martz never gave Cutler protection, Tice gave Cutler protection, but it sucked. If you're going to have extra guys blocking, they need to actually contribute, otherwise Martz was right to send them out.
Hut, hut, hut, hike... waits 39 seconds. Ignores all receivers closer than 35 yards away. Gets sacked. Repeat. Lulz. I saw something different than y'all, looked like Cutler had plenty of time about 75% of the time. He just doesn't look for any quick hitters. Ever.
It was a combination of both. Terrible protection, but when he did get it, he held onto the ball too long. Then when running for his life forgets you can throw the ball out of bounds. The entire Bears team played like crap during passing plays. Maybe it was because Forte got hurt, but they needed to throw more screens and check downs to the backs. Cutler's best gains were throws to Forte.
I agree somewhat. He doesn't get a lot of time but they would have had a chance if he didn't try to make something out of nothing all the time. He just makes bad decisions. That is why he's a turd.
Reactionary thread is reactionary. Jay Cutler was pretty much skull****ed by Dom Capers last night. Green Bay was out for blood in their home opener, Brandon Marshall was taken out of the game and Cutler tried to force throws to Davis and Bennett, that is when his offensive line wasn't ****ting themselves with fear trying to account for the Green Bay blitz. Chicago's strength will always be their defense, which was pretty damn effective against Rodgers last night. They even shut down Jermichael Finley who usually torches them. Thursday Night Football this early just feels weird for everyone.
They could have quelled some of these issues by running the ball more in the beginning and taken advantage of the middle of the field which was open. It was a bad performance all around but hot damn do people love to pile on Cutler. He had a crap performance and held on to the ball too long when he did have time, it's game 2 of the season. Offense will get better.
The entire Bears offense and coaching staff deserve the blame for the way they played. Offensive line couldn't protect, made false starts, etc. As Mayock pointed out, Bennett didn't come back for the ball at all on the 2nd interception, allowing Woodson to sneak in and pick it off. Cutler made some poor decisions, and was clearly frustrated with his offensive line, but they had some success moving the ball when they decided to run with Mike Bush and they went away from that too often. My god, stop calling 7 step drops when your line can't protect ****. Throw some screens, Forte was getting open easily on the flares, the LBs can't stay with him, they moved the ball well when they targeted him. The gameplan just seemed stupid from Chicago. You have to abandon it at some point and adjust, and they clearly played right into Green Bay's hands.
People like to pile on Cutler because he is a petulant baby. I put up with his act for a couple of years in Denver and it grew old quick. He should have also kept his mouth shut about "wishing good luck" to the Packers CBs in shutting down Marshall and Jeffery. Not too smart for a former Vandy man, IMO.
