I was referring to him pinch hitting, and with no stats. Just with what it seemed like. He always seems to come up big when pinch hitting.
Seriously. Did you know that if the Pirates finish below .500 this year, which they likely will, that they will have the most consecutive losing seasons of any team in MLB history? Given the fact that they're still being forced to trade away any sort of young talent that they develop, AND they've already done the "new stadium thing" (supposedly giving them the revenues they needed to keep those players), what exactly will turn it around for them? The Marlins are in a WORSE position, financially, and yet they have two world championships, another winning team this year after a rebuilding effort, and they play in an aging football stadium that barely draws flies. Clearly, Pittsburgh isn't simply a victim of economics and bad luck... they are a BAD organization.
You write as though this team is 20 games sub .500, when that clearly isn't the case. This team is 5 games under .500, which can easily be made up by the end of the year. If the Astros keep up their recent play, they will likely finish within 5 games of the wild card. That isn't awful. That shows me that in the offseason we need to land a Sheets or Sabathia, or another #1 or #2 starter. There should be several available. We have to open up the checkbook and get one. As for our lack of prospects, we signed all of our noteworthy draft picks this year. If we keep that up, the farm should be on its way to the mend in a few years. This org seems to have learned the value of signing its picks.
