Something to consider (and welcome, Ken)...

The Comets have section leaders and they always do really creative stuff. I remember back in their championship years, they would have entire sections that had afros or they would all hold up blow-up sharks they brought to the game. Some would have letters in different rows spelling out different player names or crazy signs.

They got a lot of support from the organization when it came to helping them stay organized.

I think it would be great to try different things at different games maybe with the theme based on the opponent kinda like when the team used to play music during opposing team intros related to the team ("I'm Only Happy When It Rains" when Seattle was being introduced, for example). Maybe shirts or signs or props related to the opposing team.

Any kind of thing that is aimed at the opposition will most definitely fire up the fans.

Plus, I freakin' love at Aeros games whenever the Aeros score and the puck is reset, the entire crowd yells in unison, "He shoots! He scores! Hey goalie, you suck!" That is brilliant. Anything we can do to encourage stuff like that would be awesome.

    Just my .02.

I agree with you there!!! I found myself caring more about what the rest of the crowd was doing and hoping they would see that it's okay to CHEER and BE LOUD rather than if we were on the Jumbo screen or if they were saying anything about us!!! I really couldn't hear anything anyway except us!! :D

I would definitely be interested in this. Good idea Evan!!!

Other ideas to get the crowd involved: "The Rocket Launch."

It's like the Lambeau Leap. Whenever Yao dunks, he leaps head-first into the first few rows of fans.

    ...Okay, maybe not.

Love that. Should these things develop organically or do we need to pre-plan?

Also, I'm really starting to like calling the section "Red Alert" and calling the fans in the section the "Red Rowdies". Thoughts?

Yeah, that's growing on me, too. The problem with Red Alert is that you didn't have anything to call the fans -- but this solves that problem.

    K-Dawg,

Love the Red Alert name for the section.

Instead of Red Rowdies, can it be called Red Alert Rowdies? Red Rowdies make us look like Red Smurfs....hehe :)

Unless the wigs can be like red flames.... :D

I just called Brian but he said the best he can do was $82/pair. I thought I heard you say we could get $62/pair so I got 8 guys on board. I already have guys dropping off at $82/pair. If I get the $62/pair, can we move over?

You kinda have to plan them I think. I know they planned them for Comets games.

Personally, I don't like the term "Rowdies." I like Red Alert for the section though.

Red Alert for the section and Red Rowdies for the fans sounds great to me.

What about Red Alert Arsenal? Or is that too complicated? I'm not that partial to Rowdies either...but it will do. I do like Red Alert for the section though.

Somewhere in the middle of organic and planned. Don't want to get stilted and silly.

During opponent free throws we alternated between "Miss That Shot" and "You Suck" chants, and that seemed to work awfully well (can we take credit for their 50% FT shooting?)
