You could also argue that McNair has already set in place his plans to keep Kubiak and Wade for this year and next, no matter what. When he said the bit about a new coach setting you back two years, you know he's going to argue that it's a double-edged sword, thus Phillips should be given two years in working with Kubiak before either are fired.

My understanding is the Giant fans want Coughlin gone as much as we want Kubs gone. The Giants had the division in their hands until that Texan-esque choke job against the Eagles in Week 15.

You guys don't think there's ANY way this works to our advantage? You can't see McNair finally getting the balls to fire Kubiak after another 5-7/8-8 year?

Come on, guys. You are killing the only thing we as Texan fans have left at this point. Hope!

did not know that first part.

all we have is hope, whether deserved for not, so i'm with ya! if they give kubiak another year after a 6th straight missed playoff season, i will give up. i still haven't thrown out my packers jersey i bought after the oilers left...it may even still fit.

I'm very interested to know if Bill Cowher approves of Wade Phillips as a defensive coordinator. The guy definitely has pedigree, and he was PROBABLY the biggest name coordinator out there on the market. Maybe this is McNair's way of setting the table for Cowher to come in seamlessly once all the CBA stuff is hammered out?? What if McNair knew that Phillips was someone that Cowher would have brought in anyways, and he went ahead and brought him so that the defense would already be aligned into a 3-4?? Please???

If this is true, then I don't think bringing in Phillips is going to make the job more attractive for Cowher. It may actually hurt if Bob decides to fire Kubes but refuses to let go of Wade after only one season.

Do you think it's a possibility that McNair brought Phillips in with Cowher's blessing?? I'm not saying he actually ASKED Cowher if Phillips would be a good hire, but maybe he heard through the grapevine that Cowher regards Phillips with a lot of respect?

I know this sounds like a pipedream, and this franchise has literally done NOTHING to earn the benefit of the doubt, but as a fan, I need something to hold onto.

Guys, I realize there's a lot of frustration - but could we maybe let the 2011 season play out before we start hiring coaches for 2012?

I was way on board, too; it would have been fun. But not now. I'm actually intrigued somewhat by the Phillips' hire; anxious to see what he can do. And unrelated but, by gosh - he sounds JUST like his daddy. I know he's always had the drawl but now that he's gotten older, it's kind of eerie.

Not probable but more likely is that Cowher can take over next offseason and not pay the price record-wise of converting to the 3-4, since Wade should have already competently done that. Cowher would then only have to fix the ZBS on offense, while just fine tuning the 3-4 on defense.

I can't wait to see him wearing his daddy's big ol' cowboy hat and belt buckle on the sidelines next year. Hell, it's probably a requirement from McNair in his contract. Gotta bridge the gap. Maybe Kubiak can come up with a play called the "Wade-a-roosky."

And when he and Arian Foster go to New Orleans in the twilight of their respective careers, he can ultimately come back to do color commentary on the radio next to Mark.

And when Mark says something like:

"Well, on that play, the safety bit on the play-fake enabling the receiver to get behind that 2-deep zone so the QB could just lob it over the top. Given the aggressive nature of the safeties against the run, I think that was a great play call by the Texans. What do you think, Wade?"

And, just like his daddy, Wade will say:

    "Yup......"

Followed by about 5 seconds of awkward silence.
