HOW IN THE WORLD CAN YOU NOT SEND THE RUNNER THERE?!?!?! Unbelievable. A lot of bad luck in two hits that were way too sharp, but horrible coaching too.
Bourne thinks he's a power hitter... trying to play long ball to the deepest part of the park. Just keep the ball on the ground.
I didn't say he was an awful defensive player. The fact that he is versatile (a point I made) doesn't mean he is good defensively. He is average, at best, at any of the positions he can play. More accurately, he is slightly below average, at best. You think I'm arguing just to argue. I think I'm arguing because you made a false statement about why Loretta is a bench player.
I assume you are talking about Loretta. Who said he was an awful defensive player? He is average. Makes the plays he gets to, but doesn't get to those he used to.
I'd rather see Erstad. Abercrombie still has the same contact issues he had with Florida that makes him a AAAA player. He still strikes out a ton at the AAA level. I think Erstad could actually be productive.
Let's go through the ridiculous luck in this game. Sure, some of it was aided by poor managing, but let's look independent of that. 1.) Wigginton's error on an easy DP 2.) Wandy's wild pitch (could've been blocked, easily) 3.) Bourn/Pence let routine fly ball bounce between them for winning run 4.) Loretta, one of the best contact hitters in the game, can't make contact on multiple swings 5.) Berkman strains his groin on a routine grounder 6.) Lee comes inches from a home run, hit so sharply and bounces so perfectly that he only gets a single 7.) Erstad crushes a pitch into the RF corner for a double, only the runner doesn't score because of (see 6) as well as again being hit too hard I understand there are some questionable decisions too, but for all this to happen in one game is just absurd.
Abercrombie struck out in 34% of his ABs at Round Rock. I don't want to see him get an extended look against major league pitchers.
sigh, how our fortunes have turned since that ill-fated 7th inning. Here's hoping for a miracle ninth....
i'd continue arguing if you didn't just end the argument with this post that makes no sense from start to finish. guess you're gonna have to find somebody else to instigate an argument with.
Did Lee not score? Both espn gamecast and mlb.com have him scoring the tying run? I am not watching game following online.
Completely disagree with this one. That pitch hit the front of the plate and took a crazy bounce over Ausmus. The bad luck was had it hit an inch further away or an inch closer, it probably would have been easily blocked.
yeah, i've come around to all you guys side of realizing that he's just a mega-troll. sorry for being confused the past couple weeks. i'm straightened out now.
It made perfect sense. Let's see if anybody else cares to chime in on this question. Q: Why is Mark Loretta a bench player at this point in his career?
I apologize if I made it sound like Ausmus had control over it. What I meant is that it hit him in a place where usually the ball would go straight down in the dirt, instead of bouncing to the backstop. Uncharacteristic, imo. As for Abercrombie, I think it depends on what the Astros want out of CF. For a leadoff hitter, of course it would be silly to use a hitter who strikes out to that extent. But if you're going to hit Pence leadoff and use the CF seventh -- in front of Ausmus -- I think Abercrombie would have more value as a run producer than Bourn, even with the high K totals. Erstad is good for the occasional start, but I think he's shown over the last several years that his body can't take the grind of everyday work -- his performance would suffer. That's not to say Bourn can't turn it around in time. But if he doesn't do it soon, I wouldn't be surprised to see Abercrombie get more playing time given how the lineup is currently constructed.
because he is an old, light-hitting 2nd baseman in an everyday role, and he is more valuable as a utility player for us. that is the correct answer.
