aw come on guys... No love for Brandon Backe!?!?!?!?! Backe hit a freakn solo shot HR!!!! I mean look at this guy on the bench. Backe is pacing. He wants the win. That's what we have lacked all season long. That deep desire to win. I'm so glad he is back. Just 1 day closer till next season.
"The Braves had the leadoff man on base in each of the first two innings, but Biggio never had to make any throws to the bases. Astros manager Cecil Cooper had spoken to Braves manager Bobby Cox before the game about not embarrassing Biggio, who admits he doesn’t have the arm strength to reach second base from the plate. " WOW...big time classy move by Cox. http://chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/5175424.html Brandon Backe is backe baby!!!!!!
From the Chronicle ... Rookie Felipe Paulino (1-1, 10.38 ERA) will make his third major league start in the season finale this afternoon against the Braves and righthander Buddy Carlyle (8-6, 5.16).
They can make their claims, but they did try to run on him with a 3-2 count in the 2nd.. Francoeur was running with Brandon Jones hitting. "Luckily" he singled instead of getting K'd. There was gonna be no K/throw out DP
On a 3-2 count, that's more like a hit and run then a steal attempt...can't fault them for doing that.
It doesn't change the class move by the Braves. If the Braves laid down, it would be insult to Biggio and if that is what Cooper expected, he should be embarrassed. More likely Cooper asked Cox not to be aggressive on the bases.
Tickets were very expensive for today. I checked Stubhub and the like. I figured I would stay home and watch the Texans and Astros at the same time. I will have the two tv set up going. I went last nite, as it was the last game in my season ticket package. It will be weird not seeing Biggio on the field for the Astros next year.
After that double, Biggio needs one more hit to tie that slacker Rogers Hornsby in career total bases.
I was actually suprised he played today. I thought he'd sit out to preserve a chance at it. I shed one last Biggio related tear today when he went off the field and into the clubhouse. Closure is a healthy thing, but that doesn't make it easier. At least he got to go out on his terms and not with injury like Bagwell or in Canada like Hakeem. Spring Training 08 is going to be a whole new experience for the Astros and us fans. No #5 and no #7 for the first time in 20 years.
