Altuve got greedy, and his baserunning has been horrid this year. Also he's gotten a lot of worse batting with runners in scoring position. I don't know if it's mental or what. I really hope this isn't the Altuve we see from now...
Altuve's BsR this season is -4.0 coming into this game. That's saying he's effectively cost the team 4 runs solely with his baserunning. I presume it will go even more negative after tonight. A -4 is already considered "Poor" and a -6 is consider "Awful." For as much speed as he has, he ought to be a natural threat on the bases, but instead he's actually a liability because he's so stupid about it. I know I've said it before, but Bagwell must just be disgusted by this team's baserunning.
Altuve basically admitted he choked in the '15 playoffs. He said in an interview his mind-frame was overwhelmed during a particular RBI situation -- a situation he failed. Fortunately he's done decently overall postseason-wise, but recalling now... his 3-HR game vs BOS were all solos, and Game 2 @Dodgers was a solo. Now, I'm not mad he hit them.. lol. But during an RISP specific conversation..... I also think Jose strikes out too much. He's sacrificed power for contact in recent years, but I'd still rather a higher contact-rate for an All-Time great hitter.... while maintaining the power . Cabrera suffers similarly when discussing all-timers. The THREE batting titles and HIT TOTALS are historically awesome though.
His brain seems like it's just somewhere else this year. Tons of bad errors in the field. Crappy eye at the plate, especially with RISP. Terrible baserunning.
We can blame bad base running or Jv not having his best game but these guys just aren’t hitting and they aren’t facing high caliber pitchers either
The strike zone the last few nights has been bullshit. It isn’t an excuse for the Astros terrible execution on the bases or at the plate but there has been zero consistency from game to game and the zone is just expanding and contracting from batter to batter and sometimes pitch to pitch.
Yankees and Dodgers won. Bad night and series A comeback would change things however and is still possible.
It'll be 11-8 after they lose this game, but the fact that it's a winning record belies the fact that they'll be 2-6 in the past 8 contests and have looked like crap against them recently. I would not trust us against them in the playoffs the way things have been trending, so I hope that matchup doesn't happen. Of course, the other wild card matchup is likely the Rays, the #1 nemesis of the AL Astros over the years, so I think I'm okay with the 2 seed at this point.
