Oh well. I truly believe Hinch was protecting Gomez feelings/ego by not ph for him there. He's one of the highest paid on the team but with Springer available to ph there, that was the move to make.
Yea...would've like to seen Springer pinch hit for Gomez. Hope someone ask why he didn't do so during the postgame interviews
That was a really disappointing loss, ugh. Series should have gone 3-1. Better get the split tomorrow.
There's no other real logical explanation for not ph for Gomez there but to protect his ego/feelings.
-With Springer on base, he potentially / likely scores on an XBH by Gomez. -With Valbuena on base, he likely doesn't score on a hit (except HR) by Springer, leaving the game in Reed's hands. I think he was hoping to tie the game right there and not put it in Reed's hands...just my thought on it. If Colby was available to run (or hit), would've liked to have seen him in either spot.
Idk why yall are so somber. Ya it sucks we won't gain any ground on rangers but at least we dont lose any since twins will stomp rangers crappy pitcher tonight. If we are only 6.5 behind the rangers at all star break we will be sitting pretty.
Yes this is the other possible reason. I still would have ph Springer and take my shot with that approach. Had zero confidence in Gomez there. Go with one of your best run producers in that spot when he's available.
6-4 home stand would still be acceptable, though we've let a few games get away. Disappointing guys couldn't get anything going before bottom of 9th. Get the win tomorrow and maybe we'll have some reinforcements by time we start up again in Seattle.
It's now impossible for a good home stand..... 6-4 is not good. Hopefully the Rangers continue struggling.
I don't understand why Hinch would sit Springer today in the first place I know he has struggled the last month, and hasn't had a day off all year...but we are two days from the all star break, just didn't make sense to me from the beginning
