Definitely. I think JV's smart enough to take a little off in order to maintain control. It will be an interesting game for sure, but I'm a lot more worried about the bats than I'd ever be about JV.

It seems the only reason he may make it is the fact that he gives hou the only option of a LHP. which makes it even worse because hes been so bad lol

Honestly at this point for a batter or two I would trust Framber Valdez more than Miley. Or Devo and hope for the return of the circle of death used on lefties

Miley has given up 23 earned runs over his last 14 innings. He has been basically unpitchable for over a month now. It’s a long enough sample size that there’s just no way you can pitch him again in anything other than blow out mop up duty. His season should be shut down.

I don't think JV thinks this way. If Verlander is thinking about taking off some velocity, he should not be pitching. JV needs to be thinking about kicking butt. It will be up to Hinch/Strom to determine if Verlander needs to be pulled.

Miley has certainly sucked since the beginning of September, but his ERA has come nowhere near doubling. It was 3.06 at the end of August and 3.98 to end the session.

Yeah, you’re right. I tried to edit that but you beat me to it. The point remains just the same. He’s unpitchable.

    Worse than 2017 Ken Giles.

2017 Ken Giles still saved game 4 of the ALDS and game 1 of the ALCS.

Yeah, Giles was the kind of reliever who would never have a clean 1-2-3 save and usually gave up a run to make it interesting. But he'd still get the save. It wasn't until Game 4 of the WS that Hinch realized too much was at risk to put him in there.

In hindsight, they were asking a lot of him to get 6 out saves.

He did have a better regular season than most people remember which is what earned those opportunities.

In the end, there are no Rivera-type automatic closers anymore. None of the playoff teams remaining feature that sort of guy. All of them could give up runs, or they could all be lights out. Makes you appreciate the greatness of guys like Rivera that much more... and even he blew playoff saves on the biggest of stages.

At this point, Miley is worse than any version of Tim Redding, any version of Dan Miceli, and any version of Chris Holt.

He's no longer pitchable. He will not be on the roster if they make the next round.

Giles was wild, but Mileys first innings in Sept is Jokerish.

Miles Straw needs some PT. So much respect for JV. I believe it was his decision to pitch today. Best case scenario Astros score 6 runs in the 1st and JV skips or become 8th and 9th inning pitcher if it is a close game.
