Crazy thought for such an unheralded prospect but according to Fangraphs he's the third most valuable AL rookie by Fangraphs WAR. He's behind Tyler Naquin of the Indians (2.1 WAR) and Michael Fullmer of the Tigers (2.1 WAR) at 1.9 WAR himself. He ahead of Nomar Mazara surprisingly, who has 1.7 WAR. Just a phenomenal year from Devenski. He could have a long career as the long/swing man out of the pen.
It won't happen unless he gets a spot in rotation very soon. I was just sorting filtering AL pitcher stats by ERA and FIP for pitchers with 80 innings pitched to say something about needing McCullers healthy when I saw an Astro as number 1 in each sort and it wasn't McCullers. Knew Devenski was pitching good....just didn't realize he had pitched that many good innings.
He's not beating out Fulmer regardless, unless Fulmer craps the bed from here on out and Devo is in the rotation and still a stud the rest of the way. Fulmer has been really good, starting the whole way, and has the counting stats as well. That said, I've really enjoyed Devo's growth curve through the bullpen. Impossible to know, but perhaps he's been good all season precisely because he's been able to grow through lower leverage innings and long relief appearances, into some 7th innings and yesterday's start. Perhaps he can go the way of Tanner Roark with the Nats--growth from swing man to one of the rotation anchors.
Luhnow won't pull Fiers from the rotation as he likely wants to salvage something from his trade But there is little doubt that Devo should start over Fiers if we really want to win
Believe Ken Giles may be placed on the paternity list.

The Astros are bringing OF Teoscar Hernandez up to the majors. Chapman going back down also to get to 25 I would guess? Either way glad to see this move When Luhnow decided not to try to help the big club this year, he left the big league OF in terrible shape so might as well try Teo and see if he can have some success
Yup, Chapman got his one day in the Majors this year. I think there's an open 40-man spot or two, so that shouldn't be a concern
I don't know if it's worth making that move this season. Devo has been a rock for the bullpen and probably pitched more higher leverage innings in relief than Fiers has as a starter. This team has unquestionably needed a strong long-reliever/swing man and it'd throw off the bullpen usage if you didn't know Devo was there to clean up the mess. I'm not confident Feliz or Fiers could step in and throw multiple innings late in games. Fiers, for all his warts, is pitching like a #5 starter based on his run-prevention numbers. His strikeout rate regression and homer-philic tendencies have been extremely frustrating to watch but he's not as bad as his tape suggests.
good news for giles. When X player becomes a dad, they become unstoppable for about 2 weeks after their return. analytics. excited for hernandez, having tucker out on RF or LF is too adventurous. good depth to have.
Fiers has just been so inconsistent And Devo has been nails, he lost his rotation spot earlier for one bad start in Fenway when the Sox were on fire But I do understand what you are saying, when Luhnow sold us out and removed Feldmans salary from the pen, it did leave us more vulnerable in midle relief
