Yea, Q is outstanding defensively. Tough luck for Paulino that inning. Hawpe barely kept that ball fair. 60 games into the season, we have 3 starters with ERAs in the 3s and not one of them is named Wandy. Who would've thunk it? We didn't do enough in the top of the 5th after Bourn's RBI single.
As far as Coors, all the data still points to it being one of the most hitter-friendly parks, even in the post-humidor era.
Yeah Kepp isn't having a good game. Some bad luck though. Wow what a HORRIBLE CALL. What I was going to say is what transpired in the inning with the plays Manzella and Keppinger made respectively shows why it's so funny when they march Keppinger out there to play shortstop. Who have a better UZR at shortstop, Keppinger or Blum?
Another good start looks like it won't be rewarded with a win for Paulino. It was the same story for him last year when he put together some good starts.
I love Keppinger as a bench player and he's obviously a huge upgrade over Flatsui but over this career, not only has he struggled against RHP to go with his lack of pop but he's mediocre-at-best defensively, and that's putting it nicely. He's slow with poor range and a barely average arm. He's a fantastic situational hitter with tremendous plate discipline that you love to have on your bench to face LHP but once you make him an everyday player, he loses a lot of his value. He's still obviously our best option right now given our situation.
3 straight outings of 8 IP and 110+ pitches for Paulino. He's thrown 100+ pitches in 11 out of 12 starts this season and has gone less than 5 IP only once (4.2 on @SF).
I have no idea why Paulino is still pitching. Rewarding him is nice, but what happens when his arm falls off from such high pitch counts in consecutive starts. Guess who will get the blame? Yep, Brad Arnsberg whether it's warranted or not.
Ladies and Gents, it certainly does appear Felipe Paulino has arrived... This has me stoked, Paulino has dynamite stuff so all that was left was for him to figure "it" out and Felipe looks to have certainly done that.
On Astroscounty, The constable believes (and certainly has me believing) that Ed Wade may have signed Brandon Lyon with the incentive that Detroit would have no choice but to sign Valverde. We get their nineteenth pick and a high sandwich first rounder. Remember, Valverde took forever to sign and there were not any other legitimate closers on the market anymore. Just a thought. So Lyon and Ed Wade may have netted us Foltynewicz and Kvasnicka, two very difficult names to pronounce and spell. SCREW GIAMBI.
