I don't think it's a bad deal. I expected him to get that money. Only 26.

I just warned the recent poster to be careful what he wished for if he liked save percentage. :) (I couldn't resist)

    Nobody is really worth that....

Machado has character issues, but the talent is there.

Machado is not a guy I would invest long term in. Could be wrong but he doesn’t strike me as a dude that’s going to work even harder now that he’s paid. What kind of shape is he going to be in at 32-36?

But whatever, glad it’s not the Astros.

Would you rather pay 26 year old Machado 30 million/year for 10 years or 33 year old Chris Paul $40 million/year for 4?

So the Astros talk big game on Tucker but he rides the bench?
    Grichuk can DH

    White to 1B

    Much cheaper team
    For next offseason.
    Stroman is the prize there

Would you rather die in a fire or drown?

So is he going back to 3rd base? Tatis Jr is MLB ready and a 5 tool stud at SS who should be called up in the middle to April like Acuna was last year with the Braves.

The reason the Mets did that deal was because the 8% interest on the deal was less than the 10% to 15% Bernie Madoff was "guarantying" the Mets so it was free money to cut his worth act. The took 3 million and signed some productive help.

I heard Bobby once say the real reason he took the differed money was because his wife demanded him to, he might have been broke by now. So at least she had some sense and he listened.

Manny strikes me as the type of player to pack it in after a few seasons of less than favorable results in San Diego. I wouldn't want that contract on the books when he turns 31.

Alot of people forget the baseball aspect of sports. At the end of the day not everything is about numbers. Its about marketability. San Diego just lost their football team and im sure local fans are looking to root for something. At the end of the day Machado will sell season tickets and get the city buzzing. .

Curious to see what the Pads do with him and Tatis Jr, which one moves to 3B. It should absolutely be Machado because he's a terrible SS, but I'd imagine he got some sort of guarantee about position, at least to start.

Pads have an outstanding crop if prospects coming up in the next few years, and now they have the cornerstone to build around, financially this is not nearly as terrible as the Hosmer deal.

And they gave him a opt out clause after the 5th season. Manny got one hell of a contract
