Then I guess the question is how much does Luhnow value Marwin? Diaz is making 575k. Marwin could cost 10 times or more than that amount.
No way Diaz. Also why not Josh Reddick and Yuli Gurriel and three top 20 prospects for Grichuk and Stroman? Make it way easier Let's say Abreu, Solis and Javier?
You'd trade 2 major leaguers and 3 top 20 prospects for a guy who's barely cleared an .800 OPS once and pitcher who's coming off a terrible season (and currently in the middle of a hissy fit about his contract even though he's under team control for 2 more seasons)? Who are they an improvement over?
Thank God you aren’t our GM. That offer is absolutely ridiculous. Two proven MLB talents and three top 20 prospects for an outfielder who’s not very good at all (he’s worse than Reddick) and a pitcher coming off an awful season? I know Stroman has great stuff and is a big name, but let’s not act like he would come in as anything more than a number 3 or 4 starter. And you don’t give that trade package for those types of players.
While I think most of his takes are horrible, I find that the responses to this last post are just odd. It is an odd proposal. Astros could trade Stroman for better prospects than he proposes in this deal. Luhnow probably can spend money allocated to Reddick's and Gurriel's contracts elsewhere for a better MLB player(s). Astros could trade Grichuk for a low level prospect. I think Astros would do this deal even if it was just to flip Stroman and Grichuk and then sign for players with the money savings (or use it to acquire someone on a big contract for which the other team doesn't want to pay much).
Why would the Blue Jays want to take on 23 million in salary this year and almost as much next season to move Stroman? In the offseason it was reported a number of times their asking price for him was as if he was still a number 1 or 2 pitcher. That means they would want multiple top 10 prospects from our system. Considering he is coming off shoulder problems, I would not be interested at that price until the deadline if he has a good 1st half of the season. The only way I see Reddick or Gurriel being traded is in a deal for Greinke to help offset that massive salary.
Interesting to me that after Harper/Machado, Marwin and Gattis have the highest projected wOBA of any remaining free agents.
Machado to San Diego. First big domino to fall. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/02/padres-agree-to-terms-with-manny-machado.html
10 years 300mil. Sounds like too much money for too many years on a guy that is a knuckle head. Reminds me of Bobby BOOOnila to a degree.
