Can you give an idea of how the Astros see Martes going forward, do they still see him as future possible long term piece of the rotation?
The names Martes hasn’t been directly discussed much this Winter. What I can tell you is that one of the biggest believers in Martes is now the GM of the Orioles. So that doesn’t help Martes standing in the organization. He has been asked to make mechanical changes for two seasons and he hasn’t made the changes or showed the work ethic he had in the low minors. Luhnow and Goldstein both believe in the stuff but they felt similar about Michael Feliz before giving up. I wish I could tell you more but would be 100% my opinion. The attitude and stubbornness really knocked him back.
Ok thanks, was hoping he was still projected as future piece, hopefully the injury gets his work ethic back.
1 year $18.25M. I guess Houston either really believes in Chirinos or thinks they can get Realmuto for a good price because that’s a great deal for Milwaukee. Top 3 catcher in the league in his prime for only $18M commitment (although losing the draft pick hurts).
Yeah, that’s a great deal. By the publicly available metrics Grandal far outclasses Chirinos as a catcher. This is hard to understand.
Only thing I can think of is the Astros didn't want to give a draft pick for a 1 years worth of a player.
True Maybe Milwaukee will be out of a playoff spot and the Astros will trade for him. Although now that I think about it. It might cost more than the draft pick they would have had to give up.
Looks like teams not going for Harper and Machado are running out of money. NL East and NL Central starting to look like divisions that will be hard fought especially if Machado and Harper end up in the East. I think Astros are waiting on Harper. Astros likely are trying to trade an OF, but teams are waiting to see where Harper and Pollock to a lesser extent end up.
Great deal, although it would have maxed out our payroll. I think Luhnow wants the flexibility to add more pieces.
Cardinals probably want a RF. Astros want a bat. What more would Astros have to give up to do a Reddick for Martinez swap?
