I saw on some other message board that Lee was possibly being dealt to the Orioles for Luke Scott and a low A prospect. The Astros would pay 10 million of his salary this year. I dont know if there's any truth to it and also have no source. I'm just relaying something I saw.
That has to be total BS coming from them. Scott is the better player, isn't likely to make more than the $9 million Carlos Lee would still be getting paid by the Orioles. To move Lee, the Astros need to eat way more money or give up prospects.
I'm not too convinced either. If Wade can move Lee for anything (figuratively and literally) I'd consider it a divine miracle.
Sounds like BS but it's picking up some steam over at the Stros message board. A couple of different people say they've heard similar rumblings. At the same time Zachary Levine just tweeted he believes no OF acquisitions are coming.
alysonfooter: Another conundrum they're dealing w/: if they sign a FA outfielder of any significance, does that put them in a position where Carlos HAS... alysonfooter: ...to move to 1b? Which pushes Wallace completely out of the equation. Is that the best thing for the club? Wade fully believes... alysonfooter: ...that Wallace can, and many ways, should with the job out of Spring Training. It appears Wade is going to give him every chance to do so.
Yanks offered Lee 6 yrs 140 mil......unreal.... which means that the Rangers will come in around 6 yrs 125 and try to convince him that the taxes etc are better here i really hope the yanks dont get him
Worked so well when we tried to get Beltran for the same "discount." Agents always go for the higher dollar figure, there's just no getting around that, but since Lee isn't represented by Scott Boras, maybe the Rangers have a chance....
Whoever gets Lee will need to go seven years at about the same amount the Yanks are offering. The question will be, do the Yanks go seven years to close the deal or stick to six.
LAA likely to go hard after Beltre, Yankees and Rangers will battle for Lee.(unless a mystery team comes out or one that he likes)
I really feel that Cliff Lee isnt going to sign with the Yankees. The 6 year 140 million dollar offer was supposed to be the "blow them out of the water" deal that was supposed to make other teams back away. The Werth deal and now the Crawford deal make that offer seem less outlandish now. He seems like he just wants to use the Yankees ineptitude to get the best contract out of one of his other suitors (which he would be more comfortable playing in).
Astros are close to signing a free agent starting pitcher to compete for 5th spot in rotation http://twitter.com/brianmctaggart
Rule 5 draft Stros chose two players... @jimcallisBA: 8. #Astros: Aneury Rodriguez, rhp, TB. Three average pitches, pushes average fastball to 94 at times, possible starter, good winter. <JC> Also Lance Pendleton but don't have any details on him. Look for the starting pitcher to be Ryan Rowland-Smith Yanks have gone to seven years on Lee.
