He blew that epic call this last season in the Astros Indians game. The one where he didn't realize they hit a foul ball and he ruled it a wild pitch.

Umps are old and make mistakes.

What he said was apolitical. He was correcting an erroneous statement about his hometown.

If a politician incorrectly slighted the Astros as being old and bad with no future, I don't see it as political correcting that statement.

Met him once (Jim Joyce, that is). Nice guy, a little odd and quirky. I'll always feel bad for him for this call, but he handled it really well. If you feel anything other than pity for him after listening to that interview you may need to re-evaluate your life.

Why is it dumb to correct something that is wrong?

I feel no pity. He totally blew that foul ball call. That was a big turning point.

Tags has more videos up on his twitter page, but it's great to see Jose, AJ, and Yuli hanging out at Shriners.

That is so many if's as to make it unlikely. I would rather overpay and find ourselves with a competent SP staff next year than look back, and for the second season in a row, underestimate our needs and come up short come playoff time.

Totally OK with Galaraga call. Very close play. The missed call against us was unacceptable, IMO. MLB is biggest problem being slow with instant replay.

I'm in the same boat. Yes, losing 3 top prospects could hurt. But we recovered just fine from losing Kenny Lofton, Johan Santana, and Bobby Abreu. I trust in Luhnow's ability to restock. I'd much rather take the chance on an already successful MLB pitcher than hoping Musgrove, Martes, and Tucker are at the same level.

How can you say this? Assuming the 3 would have had similar careers if they stayed with the Astros, the team would have been clearly better with those 3 players than the ones they got in return (Taubensee and Blair for Lofton, nothing for Abreu, nothing for Santana).

Did we recover just fine? Nothing beyond an NLDS appearance across that era.

My point is only that we didn't go into the crapper because of those losses. I'm not saying we couldn't have been better with them. We did win 3 straight division titles, including a 102-win season. Yes, we recovered. Maybe not as good as they could've been but still not all that bad.
