I'd like to see Jed go to his left a few more times, but from what I've seen he is getting better at the hot corner. His arm is still really weak, but he's gloving more balls than he was at first.
Yea that is why I hated us running with two on and two out in the first. He was set up to throw a pretty high number of pitches in that inning and we made it a lot easier for him
On the flip side, against an elite pitcher... you may only get 1 or 2 really hittable pitches per AB. He likes to throw first pitch strikes... but he also likes to get guys out on perfectly located pitches that are tough to put in play. You can take the approach teams used to do against Pedro and start taking pitches... and you'll find yourself down in every count 0-2 or 1-2 before you know it. Bumgarner is going to have to make a serious mistake for the Astros to beat him... he's just that good (much like Kuechel doesn't typically get "beat" unless he's screwing up).
We haven't been hitting the ball anyways, might as well make him pitch well against you instead of just bailing him out on first pitches.
Is it really bailing him out if those are the "best" pitches to hit? (fastballs, in the strike zone... some right down the middle?) Its not like they're swinging at first pitch balls that are well out of the zone. Gomez had a great pitch to hit there... would you rather have him swing at a 2 strike off-speed pitch away, or a 0-0 fastball right down the middle? As you said, they haven't been hitting the ball well at all... the best they can do is swing at the hittable pitches.
Have the Astros batted yet this game? I see Kazmir finish innings, then I look away for a second, then he's back on the mound.
We need more doubles and triples. Lol the singles aren't working. A huge slump but we can turn it around.
Right? Look FB early, hit it if it's there. If not.... There's a reason great pitchers are hard to hit.
Well, again, Bochy out smarts Hinch as he allows his lefties to hit against left handed pitcher, but the bone head manager we have can't see that GAttis, CC are not hitting at all, and Conger and Marisnick don't hit lefties (still i use him for defense on this game) Where is Marwin? Today Castro should be catching, Rasmus should be playing. Hinch, this game is on YOOOOOOUUUUU
I understand the idea but great pitchers rarely give you a good pitch to hit at all. Even their 0-0 pitch is usually on an edge.
How exactly does watching early-count stikes get him out of the game? Ever? You might get him out in the 10th, if it goes that long.
You act as if that is completely in the Astros control, and taking pitches is the "best" way to get there... The only way to get a starting pitcher out of the game is to get hits and score runs off him. I understand if he's all over the place, being wild... but that really hasn't been the case this game since he settled down (and he has zero track record of being "wild" sporadically this year, let alone in his career).
