Looks like the anti-jinx may have worked. Woody just completed the 4th inning with zero runs allowed so far...a first in his Astros career.
i need an explanation on something. when there are two runners on base, 2nd and 3rd, as opposed to 2nd and first, why does that dictate whether you should pitch to Pujols (just for an example) or not. if first base is open, the book says you walk him. but if 1st and 2nd are occupied, you don't. why?
Because you're putting a second man in scoring position if they're on 1st and 2nd for the next batter. Depends on if your strategy is strictly keep the bat out of his hands are not.
what's the difference when runners are already on 2nd and 3rd? you're loading the bases either way. i just don't really understand why it's an easier choice to walk the batter when 1st base is open instead of 3rd base.
When there are runners on second and third, a single could plate two. If runners are only on 1st and 2nd, a single will only plate one at the most. No real reason to automatically put a second guy into scoring position.
hr's aside, lance has quietly been on fire the past couple weeks it seems. he'll be back above .300 in no time.
For those that didn't hear on the broadcast, Carpenter is likely facing surgery next week and will be out at least three months. St. Louis is done.
