Depends. He did have some extra time off cause of the birth of his child. His arm and pitches look really good right now.
With Neshek being one of the better relievers, doesn't it make sense to keep him more rested in a 5 run game with 1 inning left? Going with Fields or Qualls was a perfectly reasonable thing to do.
Because he already had him up and warming up. Of course he turns around today and doesn't leave in Neshek, so IDK.
As of now, with a little more than a week left in the season (with 2 off days built in)... everybody should be more than good to go (especially pitchers who just had a week off).
yea that was dumb. Hinch has honestly done an awful job of managing the pen this month imo, but it doesn't help that they have all mostly sucked.
You either don't warm up Neshek at all, or you have him pitch the 9th, IMO. I consider it a mistake to warm up a pitcher and then not use them.
Didn't Neshek come in and retire Trout? Or did I miss something else? (since the above poster already declared Keuchel did not get the W tonight).

But he did get in the game... the way you worded it, it was as if Hinch was just warming him up to warm him up. As it is, it was a stretch to bring him in with a 5 run lead in the 8th, and Hinch was only likely going to do that if Trout came up with somebody on base... but Hinch also had no clue he would only need one pitch to retire the best hitter in baseball. He probably would have left him in to face Pujols as well. After he got the 3rd out, he (like most managers) felt that pretty much "anybody" who's worth anything in this bullpen should be able to get 3 outs against the rest of the lineup not named Trout (which has been one of the worst in baseball this year). Yes, wasn't an ideal result... but it wasn't "crazy" managing by any means (unless you prescribe that there never is an ideal situation to bring in Josh Fields).
