Well, they had a pseudo-one just get hospitalized... but agreed that every OF besides him has been almost nonexistent (other than Hoes' opening day HR).
Hits for power Hits for avg Speed Arm strength Fields well Which tool are you saying he doesn't have?
Hit tool is the big question mark. You can point to his minor league average, but that is a stat that doesn't necessarily translate with better pitching and defense. Adam Dunn for instance had a .304 BA in the minors. Chris Carter had a .283. Mark Reynolds was at .279.
Good God, man! Those kind of players don't grow on trees, ya know? Plus, if we are lucky enough to get one, we have to take care and cultivate him through his formative years to prepare for such a big stage.
His avg. as a 4 year college starter, along with his minor league stats, are on-par or exceeds Ryan Howard and Berkman's. And, until he actually makes his debut, and has a good number of plate appearances, we shall never know... a lot more has been made about his hitting "woes" in order to justify keeping him down for $$$ reasons. Yes, he was raw coming out of college, but he's going to be expected to put up some numbers once he finally gets the opportunity. If he falls flat, this "rebuild" is certainly going to be much tougher than expected.
I see ive found the George Springer thread at last  I suppose this is a more entertaining subject than the game
Howard doesn't really have a strong hit tool either. Berkman did. More or less, we'd get into semantics regarding how good a tool needs to be, to be considered a "tool".
Agreed. I don't think he's going to be Brad Ausmus bad... and wouldn't surprise me if he was still able to hit near .300. Typically, I would accept better than "avg" as a tool... regardless of the parameter.
Losing a 4-game series is almost as bad as being swept in a 3. 3-4 is a decent start to the season though. I'll take a .429 win % this season. Stay tuned for oad performances.
The 2000 Astros (first year at Enron) hit 249 HR's, which is still the NL record. in 1997, the Mariners hit 264 which is the most for any team in one season.
