No...the first base coach has a better view of the play and the runners and can keep runners in check when their egos take over. He can time the pitcher’s move to first and keep the runners informed.
Other than time the pitcher to catcher on every pitch; time the catcher to 2b; help regulate the leads from first so nobody gets picked off; talk to the dugout about how and what the pitcher is throwing; he's also either the IF or OF coach, so he does BP before every game; he works in the cage as needed; oh, he also holds the shin guards and gloves and stuff when guys get on 1st. Other that than that he doesn't do much.
So basically his job is to get players attention when they do something stupid, be a coat rack, and help at bp.
"Jake! get your head out of your ass and get back over here!" "Hold my gloves and watch this, coach."
Not as good as Orbit's "gotta clean my ring", but still solid. Sorry, honestly, but I do not know what this means.
Kinda regretting not watching the Astros thanks to the Rockets postseason run. My boy Charlie Morton putting in work though, legit thought he would be a Cy Young contender after that dominant game 7 save.
The offense did hit dry spells last year. Opening week last year was atrocious offensively. Namely Bregman and Gurriel were still adjusting.
Sorry if that came across as rude, man, hooooweeevah [/steven.a.smith] the 1st/3rd base coaches, bench coach, hitting coach, bullpen catcher, etc... also work with the players in IF or OF practice, some work with them as a quasi-hitting coach, working with their swing, or working with the pitchers, or watching hours of video, or baserunning, fielding, just being a sounding board if guys need to talk, they kind of do a whole bunch of stuff that none of us civilians will ever know about.
Oh please don't make discussion of batting order a thing again. As long as Astros don't put guys like Fisher and Marisnick in the top of the order, Astros likely have an acceptable order.
AL should have a very interesting late April and May. Astros get the Yankees twice, Angels twice, Indians twice, and end May with Boston coming to town. Yankees have 17 straight games against the other AL playoff contenders after this series with the Blue Jays.
Have they made the call to Fresno? At this point you have to give Kemp (.340) and/or Ferguson (.375) a shot. Interesting they had JD Davis in LF last night. White still hitting (.327)
Considering they said Davis was going to be playing the outfield and increasing his versatility when they sent him back down, it was expected.
