We don't have any insiders here so there's no way of knowing. I think that RG3 being in Houston recently suggests that he might have interest in joining the Texans and I see no reason why the Texans wouldn't want to at least kick the tires on him.
Would anybody be against investing some more money in the o-line? The guard from Baltimore is a available and we can have a very good o-line with depth. And guard was a rotating door last year.
PFF: BOLD OFFSEASON MOVES FOR EVERY AFC TEAM Houston Texans: Trade Jadeveon Clowney, No. 22 overall pick, and next year’s first-rounder for the No. 1 overall pick Brian Hoyer produced the worst grade we’ve ever recorded from a quarterback in the playoffs during Houston’s Wild Card loss to Kansas City. The Texans aren’t going to be able to draft one at No. 22 overall, most likely, meaning an aggressive move up the board to No. 1 (Tennessee) or No. 3 overall (San Diego) is required. That’s hard to do, but two first-round picks plus the 2014 No. 1 overall selection in Clowney (who quietly finished his sophomore season ranked No. 3 in run-defense grades among edge players) might get it done. It’s a lot to give up, but Houston isn’t going to get past the first round of the playoffs without an improvement at QB. Monson’s take: That is a long way to move up in the first round, and likely relies on teams valuing Clowney far higher than they currently do given, how little he has been able to play. No. 1 overall is too high I think, but they likely only need to get to #3 to ensure they can get one of the top two quarterbacks, and potentially not even that high if they start to slip.
The Texans absolutely do that if it's available. The Titans would be stupid if they agreed to that and I like Clowney. The #1 pick is just worth more than that.
Here's who they've met with. It looks to me that they are spending a lot of time focusing on QB's, and then the lines on both sides of the ball. http://www.walterfootball.com/ProspectMeetings/ByTeam [rquoter] Vernon Butler, DT/NT, Louisiana Tech (SR) Jack Conklin, OT, Michigan State (COM) Connor Cook, QB, Michigan State (COM) Fahn Cooper, OT, Ole Miss (EW) Jared Goff, QB, California (COM) Christian Hackenberg, QB, Penn State (COM) Austin Hooper, TE, Stanford (COM) Jayron Kearse, S, Clemson (COM) Paxton Lynch, QB, Memphis (COM) Carl Nassib, DE/3-4DE, Penn State (COM) Jaylon Smith, OLB/ILB, Notre Dame (COM) John Theus, OT, Georgia (SR) Carson Wentz, QB, North Dakota State (COM) [/rquoter]
With the draft being deep for offensive lineman I would like to get a proven veteran in free agency and draft somebody in the later rounds. Duane brown might be on the decline and several games Newton got worked over. I just don't want the o-line to be a issue. A starting offensive line of brown the guy from Ravens jones brooks and Newton is very solid. Not to mention Xavier DQ not sure about the status of Clark and whoever we draft or snag in undrafted free agents would be ideal. And I forgot about aboushi.
Bring him home to Houston. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Bears and Martellus Bennett's agent, Kennard McGuire, are working together to trade the tight end to an agreeable landing spot, per source.</p>— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) <a href="https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/705752382119014401">March 4, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Hard to tell. Had his best season just 2 years ago but Bennett has never been a big TD threat. I'd rather go after Scott Chandler. Knows the system and would be a clear upgrade over Griffin and C.J. Also Bennett is in the last year of his contract with a $6.3M cap hit. Not sure what it would take to trade for him but you'd be trading for a possible 1 year rental.
I'm told #Texans punter Shane Lechler will be back in Houston on a one-year deal. Averaged 47.3 yard per punt last season. Interesting. Thought they would go young.
Titans' moronic trade for DeMarco Murray takes a key competitor out of the Chris Ivory sweepstakes. Ivory is a perfect fit here in this scheme and for a lower salary than Murray and no cost of draft picks as Murray cost TEN.
(apology double-quote) I also have no problem with Daniel as QB. If you can't get a top-2 QB who will play this year then use the early rounds on can't miss-impact players on DL or at WR.
Interest in Ivory? Spoiler New York Jets running back Chris Ivory ran a path to the Pro Bowl last season during a career breakthrough year. Now, the reigning AFC rushing champion is on the road to free agency as one of the most sought after running backs. Ivory drew inquiries from seven NFL teams Monday during the first day of the legal tampering period, including the Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After cutting four-time Pro Bowl runner Arian Foster last week, the Texans are searching for a replacement and are expected to investigate the feasibility of a potential fit with Ivory in the next few days in advance of the free agent signing period that begins Wednesday. Along with Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin and Miami Dolphins running back Lamar Miller, Ivory is expected to command a hefty payday. The price for running backs is expected to get expensive, perhaps in the $6 million per year range or higher. Ivory is a big, strong running back at 6-foot, 222 pounds who rushed for 1,070 yards last season to lead the AFC and ranked fifth overall in the NFL along with scoring seven touchdowns and averaging 4.33 yards per carry. He caught 30 passes for 217 yards and a touchdown. Ivory has a punishing running style and averaged 2.2 yards after contact to rank seventh in the NFL. Ivory turns 28 on March 22. Travis Benjamin too? Spoiler Growing up in South Florida, Travis Benjamin earned a nickname built through his reputation for speed. They called him the "Belle Glade Blur." One of the fastest wide receivers and return specialists in the NFL, the Cleveland Browns free agent has piqued the Texans and several NFL teams' interest because of his combination of speed and explosiveness, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly. Benjamin's blend of playmaking skills and acceleration is precisely what the Texans' offense and special teams have been lacking. Benjamin could provide a deep threat to complement Pro-Bowl wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and inject their special teams with the ability to score or create shorter fields through better field position. Benjamin, 26, lacks ideal size at 5-10, 175 pounds, but is supremely athletic with 4.36 speed in the 40-yard dash and a 38-inch vertical leap. The former Browns fourth-round draft pick from Miami has dealt with injuries in the past, including a torn anterior cruciate ligament during the 2013 season. Benjamin has made a full recovery and was extremely productive last season despite a revolving door at quarterback between Josh McCown and Johnny Manziel. He's coming off an excellent season where he missed no games and caught 68 passes for 966 yards and five touchdowns. He averaged 14.2 yards per return. He ranked third in the NFL with an 11.6 yards per punt return. He returned two punts for touchdowns, including a 78-yard return. He returned a punt 79 yards for a touchdown in 2013. Benjamin returned a punt franchise-record 93 yards for a touchdown as a rookie. The Atlanta Falcons and San Diego Chargers are other potential fits for Benjamin. In high school, Benjamin also ran track and ran the 100 meters in 10.72 seconds and the 55 meters in 5.4 seconds. He was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference sprinter for the Hurricanes with a 10.4 in the 100 meters For his NFL career, Benjamin has caught 109 career passes for 1,683 yards and 10 touchdowns with 1,274 return yards and three scores.
