I actually live in Portland and have never even been to Houston. I hadn't ever watched the NBA before. It was the 08-09 playoffs, I believe, where the Rockets beat the Blazers. I watched both teams and really liked them both, but I liked the Rockets a little more. I started following them and have been a huge fan ever since. Yes, I even stuck it out through the Ariza era haha
After MJ retired before the 93-94 season, I was super bummed. But the Rockets back-to-back championship runs were so inspiring and fun and got me back into basketball! When my family finally moved to Houston in 1998, I became a diehard fan and can say that besides Texas Longhorns Football, the Rockets are my team. I have watched almost every regular season/playoff game since and BLEED red!
I saw the Rockets on TV nearly everywhere and then at home I saw the NBA finals with Dream. I was hooked. The guy was amazing. He is, and still is, my favorite player. I remember this very clearly, and that I think shaped me as a Rockets fan very much so. I love the organization too. Much better than the Crapstros. I really am upset that I can't watch anymore. I hope the team can build something great soon and work their TV deal out.
My reason as well. Once Lin got signed here, I followed. Then noticed that Greg Smith was from Fresno State, which is the school I currently attend, which got my interest even more. Then the Harden trade happened. Then I watched almost every game of the season and fell in love with Chandler I MEAN the Rockets.
I feel ya bro.. Most fans here in the philippines root for the top seeded teams and they are very annoying. T-Mac brought me here.
because this city made me. ANd i was also a hakeem only fan back in the day when rushing ahead of my father to get the sports page out of the newspaper just to check the stats was the only way to find out what happened in the 'home' games. thankfully, it's 2013 and we can all watch the games...ohh.
Because the Oilers are long gone. I remember being in elementary school in Houston and they'd play that Beatles-themed 'Luv Ya Blue' song over the PA system back in the late 70's [Dan Pastorini-Earl Campbell era]. So, I was first and foremost an Oiler fan, but lost interest in pro football when the franchise moved to Tennessee. Fortunately, the Rockets had already won back-to-back championships by then. I started to regularly watch the Rockets the year Ralph Sampson was drafted; been hooked ever since the Twin Towers pairing with Olajuwon.
From Beijing, started watching BBall game during high school when MJ returned and got his championships three in a row once again. Watched Rockets game since Yao joined this team and been a die hard fan since then. Hopefully one day we will move to Houston, currently in NY though.
