The Slippery Slope is a type of argument, and if no evidence is provided to prove that A will lead to Z, it is indeed a fallacy. Go back and read the Reagan quote I posted. If you mean that no one has said that socialism, or various government programs will lead to a horrible distopian outcome, you are terribly, laughably wrong. But maybe I misinterpret what you typed above. Likelihood of what? Of government social programs leading to a socialist/communist dictatorship? For anyone who wants to read about American conservatives' favorite go-to argument for any proposed regulation or tax increase: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slippery_slope For the second favorite go-to argument for any proposed regulation or tax increase, have a look at the False Dilemma, aka False Dichotomy, aka Binary Fallacy, aka Black-and-White Thinking.
Forgive me for making this thread a catch-all for related "socialism!" news, if it's annoying, let me know & I'll cut it out. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/fo...xing-the-wealthy-increasing-domestic-spending Fox News Poll: Voters favor taxing the wealthy, increasing domestic spending That last bolded part is pretty shocking with only 54% against. The supposedly "extreme leftist agenda" that some of y'all are claiming the out-of-touch democratic nominees are proffering - America is ready for it.
Redistributing wealth with tax breaks for the wealthy is the ONLY socially acceptable means of socialism patriotism I know!!
Yeah still not a fallacy. I shouldn't have said no one said it, but I guess I didn't read up enough in the thread and I certainly don't mean anyone outside of here. I don't say that in particular as a stand alone argument, and I should just say that. Anyway, my main point stands. Slippery slope is not a fallacy in and of itself. I took issue with that info graphic.
apparently we're not all gonna die in 12 years https://nypost.com/2019/01/27/what-science-could-teach-ocastio-cortez-about-climate-change/
We will if we keep allowing illegal immigrants into the U.S. They (migrants to first-world countries) are increasing first-world carbon footprints at an alarming rate. AOC should really support stricter immigration policy.
You're right. A slippery slope can be a rational argument. If you can prove that A always leads to B, and B always leads to C, it's rational to state that A leads to C. (Or repeat with many more intermediate steps.) If, however, one argues that A leads to Z without providing reason or evidence, it is fair to call it a logical fallacy, specifically the slippery slope fallacy, when criticizing that argument. It wasn't fair of me to post that graphic when I did, because the statement I was criticizing was an open question. In my defense, it's very frustrating to see people criticize progressive economic policy with slippery slope arguments over and over and over without providing evidence. I overreacted. Please know that I mean this in the friendliest way possible, but what you wrote above is quite difficult to understand. Misunderstandings while debating on the internet are rather common, so if you don't want to get mired in useless back-and-forth, clarity is key.
How AOC's Trump-like tactics might be her downfall http://thefederalist.com/2019/01/29/ocasio-cortezs-trump-like-tactics-downfall/
I think a lot of people in this thread are really obsessed with AOC. It's kind of crazy because they aren't the people who seem to support her.
AOC may be setting herself up to be a one-termer https://www.outsidethebeltway.com/n...tial-challengers-to-alexandria-ocasio-cortez/
They’re trying to do damage control. Too little, too late. The second-wave neoconservatism is coming.
What isn't very shocking is that as the amounts get closer to impacting an individual, the individual is less likely to support (not always). At the 250k level, the majority of those over 100k are against. It is always easy to be for redistributing other people's money. Worldwide, there are a lot of people living at povery levels most of us likely couldn't imagine. Would y'all be good with a marginal tax rate of 70 percent for everything over 25k in order to hel alleviate
Sorry. To help alleviate world-wide suffering? Moral issues and personal interests quickly come into conflict if you take it to a global level.
Her two main policies I know of that she supports is a bill to put money into renewable forms of energy (which many many European countries have also done) and increasing marginal tax rates to levels in the past that the U.S. has had, and again other countries and Europe have. Health insurance and free public college for people with a standard for GPA is supported by other candidates also. Is she a clown for the way she acts and portrays herself, or for policy stances?
Worse in many ways actually. As to why some support her....well, socialism is the Axe body spray of political ideologies in that It never does what it claims to do, but people too young to know better keep buying it anyway. As long as there are young and stupid people out there, people like AoC will have support.
An article 3 days ago in the LA Times https://www.latimes.com/world/europe/la-fg-germany-coal-power-20190126-story.htmlshowing that Germany is shutting down all nuclear power plants and Coal. While we have a President referencing weather as climate change and campaigning to bring coal jobs back. Some people that have been brainwashed to believe climate change is made up because of money in our political system creating propaganda are starting to wake up. Whether it is gay rights, decriminalization of drugs, etc etc. Conservatives in this country moves at a slower pace on some issues that have made sense to me since I was a young child. Keep on fighting the good fight though Bigtexxx, Cohete and others.
Also... The countries with the 6 highest income taxes in the world are Sweden, Denmark, Japan, Austria, and Canada. I have been to all of those countries except Austria (it doesn't count but I have been to Budapest which is Amazing) and they are all obviously wonderful places to live in general.
