If medical mar1juana were legal nationally you would see Pfizer getting into it. The only reason why it is run out of places with Bob Marley posters is without national legality major medical supply companies won't touch it.

So what are the far rights objections to legalizing mar1juana besides the myth that its a gateway drug? Just wanted to hear

    FYI...

A grower was just busted in Oregon. His state permits allowed him to grow about 114 lbs of mj, but he had enough plants to grow 4,560 lbs of mj. He was also selling on the streets of Seattle, which is not in Oregon.

    FYI.....

These two dudes were tortured and murdered by a drug cartel this week. Their only crime was reporting the news.

Mexico journalists tortured and killed by drug cartels

    Time to legalize.

They are okay with deadlier drugs being available on the market and oppose the introduction of a relatively harmless one.

    Defies all logic.

This idea that legalizing mar1juana alone would somehow solve the violence and rule of law problems of Mexico ignores the present reality. Drug sales make up around 60% of the actual profits of Mexican Cartels with about 40% of drugs profits coming from the sale of mar1juana. In recent years Mexican drug gangs have diversified their portfolios, so while they might lose up to 25% of their profits, they will certainly make up the difference elsewhere. In fact, decreased revenues would likely mean greater competition and exacerbate the level of violence in the short-term. That's not to say that decreased revenues in the long-term wouldn't hurt the drug cartels, only that it isn't some sort of panacea.

Repealing prohibition went miles towards reducing the power and influence of the Mafia in America in the 1920s. The cartels would lose considerable amounts of money if mar1juana were regulated like alcohol or tobacco and would lose even more money and power if other drugs were regulated as well. That is not to imply that they would shrivel up and go away, at least not as long as there is money to be made in crime. However, they would lose considerable amounts of money along with the power the money buys, there is just no question about this.

Educate yourself. The best argument i have read to date regarding drug prohibition was penned by William F. Buckley, not some "leftist."

so is this thread about legalization or medical mar1juana? because they are two totally different conversations IMO, they just always seem to get lumped into the same one.

although i agree. the system doesn't work.

is there going to be another legalization vote on the ballot this year in CA?

    that's TexasStake.

I never stated that it would totally eliminate the cartels. But it would put a large dent in their profits and that's a hell of a lot more than is being done at the moment.

It was initially about medical mmj, which has turned into somewhat of a multi-state cluster****, so most conversations as this one usually denigrate to the base argument...which is legalization. I don't know about CA, but CO has one on the ballot already and petitions are circulating to add another. But I have a bad feeling that if the second measure makes it on the ballot, it will split the vote and neither will pass.

The origin of the thread is why Obama's Justice Department is attacking dispensaries that are legal by State law.

The reason is the compromises a President has to make upholding Federal laws he might personally oppose, relenting to the moneyed influence, and taking a position that is not easily assailable by a zealous opposition.

Sucks, but that's political reality. Apparently the tactic is directed at the larger operations that may exceed the intent of the local laws.
