Raise your hand if you are willing to pay 9x your current electricity bill and invest billions of taxpayer dollars on failed solar and wind companies.

Now you know why solar and wind are have been rejected by consumers and still only represent an incredibly tiny fraction of our overall energy production.

...and the past keeps hanging around. It won't last too much longer.

In the long run, we're all dead.

since econ advisors are mouthpieces and not independent thinkers, as texxx of the Obama team variety knows, one can only assume texxx will once again be behind the wave of history.

WHO CARES ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT? I'LL BE DEAD BEFORE IT REALLY GETS BAD!

    ^^
Nobody will outright say it, but that's the only reason nobody cares yet.

The environment will take care of itself - the only question is will we be around to see it.

It amazes me that people can be so short-sighted that they cannot see that it doesn't matter whether climate change is a man-made result of poor stewardship or whether it is part of the Earth's natural cycles.

Either way, should we not be better neighbors and pollute as little as possible?

We should pollute as little as possible, however a cost-benefit analysis must be run before deciding to shut down an entire industry over very difficult to quantity environmental benefits. It is a noble goal to pollute less, but people are unwilling to pay 9x their current power bill to do so. At some point, one must weigh the economic impact of going green -- as of today it makes zero sense. This is the beauty of the free market system -- the consumer decides... until you get an activist EPA like Obama's EPA, that comes in and makes the decision for the consumer. Now you know why they are hated.

Coal fired plants have come a long way since 1970 -- with generation doubling but overall emissions down 70%. That's the result of billions of investment in environmental controls. The argument that coal fired plants are dangerous to Americans' health is just stale and outdated.

What's the big deal again T_J?

We went through this 8 years ago when Bush skyrocketed the price of energy with his war in Iraq. Then the Decider doubled down with his penning of the bioethanol provision 5 years ago. Subsequently, there was an energy boon for alternatives like shale oil extraction, solar panels and wind energy. Shale oil, domestic shale oil at least, is thriving and some estimates projects the US into the 3rd largest petroleum producer by 2040.

Of course, there's a growing number of people who think we're ****ed with all the CO2 emissions that will increase if that were to happen, but you've squared that externality into a nice lockbox and we're talking about costs....
