Even if Obama supported reparations, do you think he would actually go on record and say that considering the majority of voters (or those who will actually vote) aren’t black…i.e. wouldn’t benefit?? I doubt reparations will ever occur…and if they do no black running in a non majority black area would ever support it as they wouldn’t get elected….

First of all Obama has stated he doesn't support reparations. Nothing in the article indicates otherwise. Secondly - Are you really trying to compare the two? Think before you post next time. comparing the action of a few private citizens, to actions by the govt. that went on for centuries is lunacy.

His answer seemed pretty clear to me. If an article attempts to say that he is in favor of reparations, but the only evidence they have is a quote by him which makes it sound like he's against them, only the answer wasn't a one word answer doesn't seem like it's too hard to figure out that he's against it. I actually don't have a problem with some form of reparations, so it wouldn't bother me if was in favor of some form of it as well.
Why is reperations so bad? Shouldn't the descendents of slaves recieve the wages their ancestors were FORCED to give? How can any of you be against that? Hell we have to still pay taxes owed by those who are deceased. Its centuries of slavery, SLAVERY, then after they are freed they are kept in a mental slavery through JIM CROW laws, KKK, educational and employment limitations for the next 100 years after slavery. How can the gov't not owe these people? I'm not asking the common person to pay for it but the gov't does have a responsibility not to let the people who stimulated its economy for free, die in vain. Honestly I expect him to support reperations to slaves and since they can't reap the benefits of their work then their descendents should. And to the person the person talking about reperations to hate crime victims. You cannot compare the largest mass hate crime of American History to the hate crimes of today in which statistically are still geared toward blacks more than any other group including gays. I would encourage you to rally your supporters and DEMAND that Obama include reparations as one of his campaign issues if he makes it to the General Elections. Judging by Obama's ambiguous answer to his support of reparations, he does likely support them deep down in his heart, imo. Don't let Obama sell slave descendants short!
You're definitely right but its easier said than done. Especially after that stigma has been engrained in ones DNA, Heredity, social, economical and educational lives for centuries. It can be done but when there are people of other races EVEN our own that continue to harber hidden racism its much harder to rise from the ashes.
I honestly admit that based on some of your previous post I pegged you as a bit racially insensitive but if you honestly mean this last post then I may need to reevaluate that assessment....a little But you are right about needing to push that to Obama. I myself am no idiot in knowing that it is political suicide, especially in country that doesnt properly address its past,to push such a policy. I hope he deep down does feel it necessary. None of my immediate ancestors owned slaves, (I cant speak for MR. MEOWGI of 3000 BC) so why should money come from my pocket? That is also stealing.
I think what you're failing to recognize is the primaries are typically not that important for the republicans. This is the first time in quite a while that the republicans have been split on several (un)potential candidates. I would expect the number to be quite low.
I support slave reparations. Any freed slaves who are still alive, or children of slaves who were separated from their parents due to slavery should be given a free college education. Anything more distant than that should be given their rightful nothing.
The fact is, many black people in the US today still suffer from the effects of slavery and it's devil child racism. But there are 150 years of complications that make any definition of damages or assignment of responsibility impossible. Because of that, I think many affirmative action policies are still valid and should be continued for at least one more generation but, reparations is just a goofy idea. Casino's run by the United Negro College Fund...now that's an idea.
