In addition, a major reason why Ebola has spread is because of a lack of order - see the reports of ignorant Africans "liberating" Ebola victims from hospitals and such. If American troops can keep order there, that will help prevent the spread of the virus.

If this is still on Netflix from 1995 it would be worth a watch:

I didn't say it was a bad thing. Moreso that its preferable to a War on Drugs or War on Terrorism.

    Good.

Have the US ever done something like this before? Sending troops to build hospital and to try to slow down or contain a virus from spreading..

Troops have been deployed to disaster areas a bunch of times. Part of what the US troops did after the tsunami was designed to prevent the spread of disease.

Yeap, but also to help with rebuilt, infrastructure... all of that.

Have US ever done this exclusively for a virus?

Exclusively for a virus? I am not sure. This is the first time that I can remember us doing it for a specific virus only and not related to some greater natural disaster.

I'm curious because is this worse than what the public know? It's an unusual move by the US. I like it. I think if more viruses are contained early, many deaths can be prevented.

I am also glad we are trying to do something. This Frontline about Ebola is well worth the watch:
