    Thoughts?

My coworker is a die hard republican and nothing Obama does in his eyes is correct. When the market crashed, he said that the stock market started going down the day Obama announced that he was running and that Obama would run the market into the ground and he'd be the reason for the collapse.

So today, I told him that the market hit 10K and he said that Obama isn't the reason, he said its the american economy correcting itself despit what Obama has done. He also said that the stimulus money hasn't even been spent yet and the stimulus had nothing to do with the stock market increasing. Does this guy have any merit?

or not. One or the other. Sounds like the kind of guy who would have said that whether he was right or not. It's not so simple as any of that.

No matter what there will be people's views who are so strong that if the truth hit them in the face they wouldn't accept it.

    It is what it is.

I don’t know as much about the market as a lot of people here, but does the market really give a crap about who’s in office at any given time? There are WAY too many other factors that drive it than simply who the President is, right?

Guys like this are the same guys who scream “See??? There’s no global warming!!!!” every time a cool front passes through town.

The answer is: you will never know.

Any consideration of effects from courses not taken, is purely conjecture.

The facts are 1. he was elected 2. a massive stimulus plan was undertaken and 3. the panic of the crisis mode has subsided and the market has gone up.

The stock market is a measure of the psychological balance between greed and fear. The greed has returned.

Still, in the future we will have to pay the tab, most likely in a devaluation of the Dollar. That will be the next panic.

Yeah, pretty much. It's no different now than when Bush (or any president) was in office. The market will fluctuate on its own.

I don't see the appeal in debating global warming anyway. If it's real or not, why does it matter? Let's treat the environment better anyway.

Hasn't the dollar already suffered significant devaluation? Is the current 10k market the same value as the pre-crash one?

Totally agree. Never a good idea.

Same could be said about family gatherings as well.

All but one person in my office is very conservative.

Yeah, I'll pass on talking politics at work.

As far as the OP, I think there's some truth to that...but then again, no one wants to admit that there's a gray area...it's always OBAMA IS RUINING THE COUNTRY/ECONOMY/MARKETS or OBAMA HAS SAVED EVERYTHING WITH HIS BRILLIANT POLICIES (even though I haven't heard the last one too often).

I wouldn't say the market is saved just yet, it could go down again near term. And Obama shouldn't be making his decisions based on what the stock market will do anyway. He's got bigger things to worry about, like high unemployment and the ever weakening USD.

That's what I've been saying all along- if you're going to place the blame on Obama when the stock market is going down, then you have you have to give him credit when it goes up.Conservatives blame all if Reagan economic problems where blamed on Carter. If you ask most conservatives why Clinton was able to have a surplus when he left office, they will give the credit to H Bush. If you criticize W Bush for ignoring the intelligence reports warnings that 911 would happen, they blame it on Bill Clinton.

My question to hard right conservatives is, do you ever hold them accountable for any of their mistakes?

He is tanking the dollar to do it, same as bush. Record deficits, 10% unemployment, while people say the markets are forward looking I say its a casino. How else do you explain AIG being 6bil despite owing the govt zillion dollars.
