I hadn't seen this posted yet. Sorry if I missed it. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/mar/18/obama-climate-plan-could-cost-2-trillion/
Continued use and reliance on fossil fuels such as oil could cost our nation thousands or tens of thousands of lives considering the dealings we have to do with nations that support terrorism because of it, and the wars it leads to. Continued damage to our planet and atmosphere could also do irreparable damage.
orrrr we could just uncap about a zillion oil fields in this nation and not have to rely on foreign oil. notice that 'global warming' has quickly evolved to 'climate change' in the mainstream media.
because global warming doesn't fully capture the climate change that is occurring and will occur. its science, not a conspiracy.
Actually, the rebranding of Global Warming as Climate Change was a conscious effort designed and led by Frank Luntz, who is a hardcore Republican 'language consultant'. [rquoter] Although Luntz later tried to distance himself from the Bush administration policy, it was his idea that administration communications reframe "global warming" as "climate change" since "climate change" was thought to sound less severe. [/rquoter] If you want to place blame for nefariously manipulating language, look to the Republican leadership on this one. Though I’m sure now you suddenly aren’t as outraged as you were when you thought you could blame it on the dreaded mainstream media. You can read some excerpts from his book here, and find out about the many ways he seeks to manipulate language to change the debate.
For starters, we (the US) have 3% of the world's oil, we consume 25%...simple math. Also, most of these oil fields are already owned by oil companies who are choosing not to use them right now because lower supply means a higher price per gallon.
But will America ever try to do anything that sacrifices the present for the future? I really cannot see that in a democratic country where representatives have to constantly worry about election and the needs of people NOW. For plans like these, we need a dictator.
I did not want to start a new thread... NASA data indicates antarctica and greenland melt rates are worsening
I just read through the article - it's talking about $646 billion in annual revenues generated to the government from cap & trade. If the teabaggers are to be believed, this is exactly what we need. The deficit practically almost cures itself. Sounds like everybody's a winner. I expect to see fat paunchy white folks in tricornered hats with their sweats tucked into their rain boots parading around in favor of this by tomorrow.
And that's where you and the Beck clan diverge in this conversation. Please stick to distorted, data-bereft soundbites if you want to teabag like John Waters at a cast party.
The science is there, but you have to be careful to look for it. There are people on both the right and the “left” who are misrepresenting and exploiting this issue for their own purposes. Here are a couple of interesting bits of scientific information that neither of these groups will like. People who are interested in the truth want to see real science like this, but people who aren't truly interested in truth and who instead are merely pursuing self serving political objectives do not like truth because it interferes with their spin. Yep, someone has to make the sane choice and take a little pain to get a more solid future for our country and citizens. DD
Who cares? If I learned anything on 9-12 it's that deficits are the ruin of our country, and that sucking on a sack of earl grey is not very intelligent. This will eliminate them. and help the environment. DOUBLE WORD SCORE
you knew where I was going with my line of questioning, and you chose to cower and run away. Probably a good idea
Where were you going? Towards a land where incentives are properly aligned with costs? SCARY TOWN don't go there boy. Don't go there. You will get your bootay waxed, and not in the good way.
