This schit was scripted. No excuses. There is no place for racist jokes in this country. Hillary was complicit. The crowd voiced disapproval, as you can imagine. Cringe-worthy.

New York Mayor De Blasio Faces Criticism for Joking About 'CP Time' With Hillary Clinton

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio is facing some criticism for joking about "CP time" while performing in a comedic sketch alongside Hillary Clinton at a charity event over the weekend.

During Inner Circle's annual event in New York City that includes musical and comedy performances by local politicians and reporters, Clinton made a surprise cameo during a scripted scene with de Blasio and Leslie Odom Jr., who plays Aaron Burr in the Broadway show “Hamilton.”

Clinton joked with de Blasio about how long it took him to endorse her for president, to which the New York City mayor (and Clinton's former Senate campaign manager) quipped back, “Sorry, Hillary. I was running on CP time." The remark is an apparent reference to colored people time -- a phrase sometimes used as a stereotypical reference to black people supposedly being late to everything.

In a video of the skit, released by the mayor's office on Sunday night, the audience appears to laugh awkwardly at the remark. One man in the crowd can be heard shouting, “No!"

    "That’s not -- I don’t, I don’t like jokes like that, Bill,” Odom, who is African-American, said.

Clinton then interjected. “Cautious politician time," she explained. “I’ve been there.”

De Blasio, whose wife is black, explained the joke during an interview on CNN on Monday night. "It was clearly a staged show. It was a scripted show. The whole idea was to do the counter-intuitive by saying cautious politician time. Every actor thought it was a joke on a different convention. That was the whole idea," he said. "I think people are missing the point here."

Was pretty awkward, but the whole thing was scripted.

Deblasio's people should have caught that one.

So this outrages you? Of all of the racial topics discussed in this forum, this is the one that makes you feel the need to take a stand?

I think the same guy that runs Ms. Clinton's email wrote that joke.

    Life observation:

There are times in life that just saying the bland nothing gets the job done, why are we compelled to try humor when we know what makes something funny to one person is what offends another.

I've taken more than one stand on racism. Go back and look at the thread where the Texas A&M student made racist comments to the inner-city schoolkids visiting the campus. This isn't the first time.

And yes, this joke about CP time is awful, because it perpetuates a negative stereotype around black people running slower than the rest of society, which has an ugly undertone of implying they're lazy. Very ugly. It can't be excused away as just a "joke", because the joke references the ugly stereotype.

    A. It does reference an ugly historical stereotype from the past - that was kind of the point - it was making fun of politicians. It was an awkward joke.

Referencing stereotypes isn't racism. it might be bad taste, but the two things are different. The fact that you call it racism shows you are more PC than many of the supposed liberals are here. That or politically opportunistic to take a potshot at Dems.

Clintonistas out in full force making excuses for her again. Do you folks have no shame?

If Trump or Cruz (I can't stand both) made the same joke. OMG!!!, clutchfans and the entire internet would have gone nuclear.

Referencing negative stereotypes perpetuates negative thoughts about groups of people, which certainly contributes to racism. We're better than that. Hold yourself to a higher standard.

You're doing it again LOL!!!! You post in a thread but ignore the post!!! That's 2 posts in a thread without commenting on the thread. It's uncanny.

Instead you go on the attack. First OP and now me. Like a scared animal in the corner. It's okay don't be scared. Hilary can make mistakes and we can talk about them. She won't hate you for it. Actually she doesn't know you or care about you (you're not a millionaire donor are you?) so it's no big deal.

Are you seriously trying to minimize or rationalize his racist comment? Methinks you wouldn't write that had it been Ted Cruz who made the "CP time" comment...
