Fine. Players want a shortened season? They need to live with a shortened paycheck check as well. Less games would mean less revenue and less revenue would mean less pay. No way around that one. No way the NBA is gonna shorten the season otherwise. Everyone wants to do less work for the same compensation...

Make the regular season the same number of days, but with fewer games. Eliminate B2Bs. Allow teams to practice more often.

The product on the floor would be significantly improved.

We cannot allow the number of games to decrease. We just can't. You would effectively be capitulating on the fact that KARL MALONE IS THE NBA'S #2 ALL TIME SCORER.

F that man. Make baskets worth 3 and 4 instead of 2 and 3 if you have to. Erase that ******* from the record books.

Do they want to shorten their checks?

I have never understood and will never understand why U.S. sports has so many games in a single season. All the sports in every country has just two games against every opponent, one home and one away and they play just once a week. There are no reason to play so many games, at least no sport related; and if not sport related, it's just a stupid reason.

Only the NBA would play a 6-month season and only eliminate less than half of the teams from the post season.

Either shorten the season to make the playoffs more meaningful or shorten the playoffs to make the season more meaningful.

Agreed. Games would mean more. There would be fewer injuries.

The fact that Pop rests his star players for the occasional regular season game (a wise move on his part) is quite telling. You always play to win, but if you lose a few games especially against non-conf or even non-divisional opponents...it's not a big deal.

The regular season as it currently stands is too much of a grind...and as much as I like the NBA, the regular season gets a bit boring at times.

Players would have to accept lower pay, though.

Let's shorten the season to 42 games. Then let's make it best of 11 playoff series. You're welcome.

Are players willing to cut their pay in half? Didn't think so

    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Same reason why the NFL owners want to add more games to the season.

Perhaps when a team is statistically removed from the playoffs, that team no longer plays in the regular season ... and the players do not get paid. Any of their opponents remaining automatically gets a win.

It will never happen, but it would certainly discourage tanking.

I wouldn't mind 72 games but I feel like people would complain no matter what

yeah, like u said it is very unlikely to happen, but the idea is right.
we should talk talk abt reform the draft lottery, discourage tanking and let the true 16 best teams compete for the championship.
aging starts obviously want to shorten the season to extend their careers like dirk. superstars like lebron does not care abt paycheck as he makes more from endorsements. lebron likes to play less games so that he can have a longer career, but majority of nba players live on paychecks, shorter seaons means less $$$. never will happen.

Shorten the games to the 50-60s and adopt a European soccer system:

    - No playoffs, the team with the most wins at the end of the season gets the ring
    - Have "cup" games, 2-3 cups like (FA Cup and Carling Cup for EPL)
    - Then we can have a Champions League game with the top Euro teams

Probably a bad idea, but would be fun to see it being experimented...

I want to see top 16 teams make playoffs.. not top 8 from each conference.

This discussion pops up every year. There's so many more benefits from a shorter season that's already been mentioned.

But nobody wants to leave money on the table. Nobody, including all the players/coaches who were quoted in favor of it.

    62 games, 5 pre-season games. No back-to-backs.

Makes regular season more competitive, keeps players healthy for the playoffs.

Repped! Mid-60's is too short. Dirk is showing his "Euro" style preference IMO. Cutting it to 72 games still gives the fans enough basketball to see, while keeping the players fresher for the playoffs.
