Did CP3 change his mind too? Because he said go back to the drawing board. Didn't seem happy with the defense last game.

Hopefully they just cut the minutes of people not holding fort defensively, and give new guys some minutes.

Guys are not ready to play, not in tune / synch, sounds like lack of preparation and taking things seriously.

Where are the true defensive tools? What if it does not work?

What is your solution if starting with 7-13 (7 wins 13 losses)?

Of course MDA backed off about cutting the switching etc, lol, that looked like a super panic comment as soon as i read it, especially cause we don't even have a defensive coach, how in the hell MDA and Roy would be supposed to teach some sort of new defensive system during the season when (it seems like) they can't even keep alive the one the team used until 5 months ago?

Switching isn't working because NBA teams over the offseason learned something.

When there is a switch between a big like Capella and a wing or guard and Capella is caught at the top of the 3 pt line guarding a guard, NBA offenses last season thought that the guard has the easy mismatch with Capella. But they didn't realize that his slower feet were offset with his longer arms and longer stride thus it wasn't as much of a mismatch as one thought. That was why bigs like Capella could almost consistently still defend the wing at the top of the 3 pt line surprisingly decently.

This season, offenses are learning that the actual mismatch that is worth exploiting is when the big man paint enforcer is away from the paint, just dump it to the offensive big in the paint to easily score over our wings and guards or at the very least manhandle them with offensive boards. They don't bother as much with trying to have a guard fly past Capella. They would rather get the easy bucket in the paint where the paint enforcer is missing.

I mean honestly the majority of these guys were in this defense last year. It's not that far fetched to say it's about focus and effort with how bad they are playing defense this year.

Thats not true. They were posting us up ALL of last season. It just didnt work. Post ups never have produced effective offenses. Last year we had guys who could switch AND good play good help defense. The post up has been an efficient play for awhile. Only this year are we seeing Post Ups being used more and thats only because freedom of movement gives more leeway(thats just my opinion though). If you look at the top 10-12 offenses none of them have the post up as a staple of their offense, sure they may mix it in sometimes(some more than others) but its not what their offense are based off of. The only team which posting up is a staple are the Nuggets cause Jockic is an amazing passer.

Well, I'm pretty sure we weren't 6th in defense 5 games into the season. As I recall our defense improved a lot as the season went on. I'm sure we were better defensively 5 games into last season than we are 5 games into this one, but we certainly weren't an elite defensive team at the beginning of last year. We had a lot of turnover last year and we had guys out and the team had to get used to playing together. That's at least as true this year as last.

Yes, the Rockets have looked rotten so far. I'll say again though: 5 games. Give them some time.

    THIS

I think we were 15-20ish to start the season defensively last year

We have no help defense in the post. It takes two passes from the post against us in the post to get a wide open 3 or a dunk. I would rather have the rookies playing and trying instead of watching Capella and Melo chilling out.

Also, If you run the exact same simple defense month over month and then give teams an entire off season to study it, of course they are going to have it more figured out. It's just like 2016 when teams learned to guard Mchales drive and kick offense.

he didn't cut them at all. Wasn't his choice for them to leave and our best defensive rating line up was when Ariza was on the bench last season. We also have the same defensive rating as last season when Melo is off the court, so it is not like we are missing Ariza and Luc at all......by the way we were 14-1 without Ariza last season as well. The only loss was against Sacramento in the last game of the regular season

It's the Anthony's curse. It's hard to understand it. Everywhere he goes, his teams are losers. It didn't matter if he play well or not. The curse being that he's a chemistry destroyer. In NY, he obliterated the Linsanity phenomenon when he return. In OKC, he was so bad that coach had to bench him and he didn't even get minutes. He's just not a team player.

MDA's "more effort" is exactly what McHale loved to say.

Time for MDA to weave offensive magic into these mismatched players or else ... he will lose the locker room with Harden and CP3 (he already has bad history with Melo)

and we know who the FO will pick between coach and players ...

Our new strategy is to forego defense entirely and focus on scoring 150ppg

We just need to see how everything plays out. Last year we went on a 5 game losing streak, then turned things around and didn't lose 2 games in a row after that. They will get it together.
