He said it right in the article you posted:

Warriors are one of the best teams in the league, and generally the explanation has been shooting and the Splash Brothers. Less discussed is the scrambling, suffocating amalgam of long limbs flying at ball handlers with the speed of hurricane winds that comprises the best defense, by far, in the NBA -- better than Thibodeau's Bulls, Popovich's Spurs and the improved Bucks, Blazers and Hawks.

Rockets showed us tonight they're capable of that very same thing. Long limbs, quick hands, quick feet. The Bulls of old had it, The Warriors have it and the Rockets have it.

I could have made the statement a different way, I could have said DEFENSE, not analysts, is how you build a championship team, and 3 point shooting is a novelty.

And got laughed off the board, for the exact oppose reason I'm being laughed off it right now.

The fact of the matter is in MANY MANY big games, the warriors rely on their defense to win games and NOT their revolutionary Space and Pace. And more to the point, look at steph curry's numbers, many many times he is going 1-4, 2-8, 2-9, 3-10 , from 3.

Golden State, as a team, averages 114.6 points a game: roughly 38 points come from 3. That means 76 points come from shots other than the 3. (Or, to put it another way, two-thirds of their points aren't 3s.)

I've said this all along and I love and hate big mouth bass, damn he is ugly. Curry is a worse defender that Harden and nobody talks about how that team is still the best defensive team in the NBA. It really is a great combination of players. You forgot Klay Thompson, great defender as well.

Thick about, 1 of their many "role" players (andrew bogut) was a #1 overall pick in the draft, a few short years ago. Another andre iguodala (for about 4 years) was arguably a top 10 player in the league, and he is only 32. They signed Curry to a ridiculously cap friendly contract.

yes, they made a great pick when they drafted Klay and Draymond Green. But this team is about 3 times as talented as any team in the league right now.

But again, if you are really watching closely, good teams ARE figuring out how to stop Curry (or at least limiting him to being inefficient). The problem is that this team has about 5 other players that are better than most teams primary star.

They have always won games with defense since the organizations turnaround. Its the difference beween them being NBA champions and not the Nash era Suns.
