Would pour that giant bowl of Cinnammon Toast Crunch and watch Pokémon and Digimon. During peewee football, I would put my gear on while watching cartoons and hope the game would be over before cartoons were done showing. Even though I had cartoon network and nickelodeon, it was cool watching saturday monring cartoons on "regular tv". Would also run home from school to catch Toonami during the week.
In the early 80s we found out about what new shows were coming on by looking at the back of Marvel Comics. NBC would have ads on the back cover.
Wait... Just cartoons? Because this was my childhood... <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/q0YkXmebAGM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
The original Power Rangers up until In Space was an every day of the week thing (In Space was only on Fridays though). It was only after Disney took it over did they start to be a weekly saturday/sunday thing. DVR and Streaming is going to kill nostalgia. The only reason we think so fondly for all the stuff in our youth is because we couldn't get our hands on it so easily. What will the kids be nostalgic for when they grow older?
Before TV was invented, there were no Saturday cartoons. Soak your brain in that and let it marinade.
You guys are silly. Before the TV was invented, on Saturday morning, we hopped in grandpa's model T for some car tunes.
Bugs and Tweety Show Garfield and Friends (we're, we're, ready, ready, to, to to parrrrty!) Fox kids everything: X-Men: TAS Eek the Cat Terrible Thunder Lizards Tazmania Super Dave Bobby's World Spider-Man: TAS Fox Kids segues between commercials and returns (dinosaur characters were my favorite) Nickelodeon: Doug Rugrats Ren & Stimpy Pinky and Blinky koala show. The one where koala folks came to life if you rubbed noses. Storks David the Gnome That's all I can recall from the top of my head. What a sad day indeed. Even though Saturday morning cartoons aren't what they used to be, it gave me great comfort to know that something I experienced as a child would still be there for my kid and for me if I ever wanted to recreate childhood feelings a little bit. It seems like not long ago I would wake up every Saturday watching cartoons, then suddenly smell breakfast being cooked indicating to me that my mom is awake. Man I get too nostalgic. I long for those days. I seriously think I have some sort of disorder of being too nostalgic.
