Nike Pro City 2008 - featuring Ron Artest

I don't know who's familiar with this summer league, but our Man Artest ran the show.

Prime Time entered the Nike Pro City (68th and Lexington Avenue) playoffs as the top seed. Queensbridge had to defeat X-Men to get in; they peaked at the right time and had the best player in the entire tournament in Houston Rocket forward, Ron Artest. When the two squads faced off for the league championship and the right to go to the Tournament of Champions on August 23, the night ended with the speakers pumping MC Shan’s “The Bridge.”

In the fourth quarter, the pros that suited up for both teams; Ron Artest for Queensbridge and Marcus Williams for Prime Time, showed why they are paid so much dough to play the game. Williams seemed to hit an activate button and began to score at will, with deep jumpers and drives to the bucket. Ron Artest was vintage Ron Artest, knocking down the J with defenders draped all over his arms and getting to the basket when he pleased.

As time ran down and it was obvious Queensbridge had the game, Artest faced the crowd and smiled and danced as “The Bridge” was played and all Queensbridge supporters in attendance let out a victorious roar. It was obvious that this one wasn’t an individual triumph, and Artest won this one for the entire hood.

Artest led all scorers with 35 points on 4-for-8 shooting from three, 23 in the second half and nine rebounds. Showtime Hill scored 20 and dished six assists, while Jarrid Frye contributed 19 for the champions. Don Williams came of the bench for Prime Time and led his squad with 20 points and 11 boards. Williams added 19 points, on 3-for-6 shooting from behind the arc, for the losing side.

In game two Ron Artest went off yet again, dropping 44 points to go with ten rebounds, six assists and three blocks, to knock off Dyckman 131-115. Dyckman suited up former Knick shooting guard and Olympic gold medalist Allan Houston. Houston was introduced to Pro City by a heckler who yelled, “Allan I’m a big fan, but if you don’t represent I’ma get on you.”

Houston did his best to keep Dyckman in the contest, but Artest would have none of it. The Sacramento King hit seven threes and threw done a sick tomahawk flush to dispatch of Dyckman. Houston showed glimpses of his old self when he scored five quick points on Artest with a three-pointer in his grill and a blow by for a lay up. Showtime added 22 points for QB and Jarrid Frye added 16 points and nine rebounds. Houston led Dyckman with 25 points and former Kennedy HS star JC Mathis added 22 for the losers.

Nike has pro city leagues in several cities. I thought you were talking about the one here in Houston at the Fonde.

When and where is this "Tournamnet of Champions"? I mean, it says August 23rd, but what time?

The pro city tournament (final four) was last night at Fonde here in Houston. The championship game is Wednesday night, not sure of the time. Mike Harris' team actually plays defense and looks likely to win.

Moses Malone's team last night stunk up the gym, despite a good second half from Mike James (Who?). Moses put on a jersey and checked himself in as a joke with 2 minutes to go down by a bunch. There is no "D" in James.....Great fun to watch....

Dude he dominated a bunch of YMCA calibare washed up players. nothing to get excited about. he should have dominated them. he's ron artest. he's allstar calibare player.
