I feel like it's impossible to stop something like this if a person is determined to kill themselves. Credit to the SWAT team that got in there and took him out.
More like a certain poster questioning courage of guys who took time to mount a rescue (and put themselves in the line of fire) in the early morning.
America doesn't have the stomach or attention span to deal with an enemy that is as ruthless and determined as Al Qaeda/ISIS. It would take a long term investment to defeat them and we're just not prepared to do that so these things will keep happening every now and again unless/until Al Qaeda/ISIS happens to change on their own from within.
It is ok to trample on the people's constitutional rights except for their second amendment rights; those are sacred.
I don't understand how this guy was interviewed by the FBI in 2013 and 2014 and was still able to buy an assault rifle a week ago to carry out this massacre. The Feds dropped the ball and 50 people are dead because of it. Damn shame.
Well we know from an unrelated case that it takes the FBI a long time to finish "security reviews" so maybe they were still working on it? That said, do you really want to live in a country that strips people of their rights without due process? Is that really better? The guy wasn't guilty of anything that we know of before he did this, so what grounds would you suggest his rights be stripped on?
http://abc7.com/news/suspect-w--arsenal-in-car-taken-into-custody-in-santa-monica/1382290/ WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- Authorities took a suspect into custody in Santa Monica after discovering an arsenal in his car that included tannerite powder, assault weapons and a camouflage outfit. The suspect told authorities that he was there for the Los Angeles Pride festival. During a press conference at the L.A. Pride, Mayor Eric Garcetti said the suspect was arrested Sunday with the help of a tip from a citizen. Police officers conducted a traffic stop in the 1700 block of 11th Street on reports of the car containing possible powder explosives. Officers found five pounds of tannerite-type powder, assault weapons, long rifles, clips loaded and taped together and a camouflage outfit along with a security badge. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, adding that the arrest has no connection to the Orlando nightclub mass shooting that took place early Sunday morning.
I just don't understand how the government has a "no-fly list" for individuals who they believe have ties to terrorists/terrorism yet interviews individuals because of their radical statements / and potential links to known terrorists and then allows them to purchase assault rifles years later. It's a tough line to be drawn between protecting citizens and not infringing upon the 2nd amendment right. I have no idea how to solve these kind of issues myself.
The feds? This is probably a case of his American rights to own and purchase a gun unless he was charged with a felony. Just like any american. These are Supreme court case worthy.
Well the reason they can do that is because there's no right to fly....even though some make a case that the no fly list is a violation of civil liberties. You can't outright take away rights specifically granted in the constitution without due process and buying a gun is one of those things. Honestly it's just part of the cost to live in a free society where rights are respected over attempting to create perfect security. IMO the only way you can stop things like this from happening is by bulking up security at places where large numbers of people gather. ISIS isn't going anywhere anytime soon so we'll just have to adapt to living in a free society in the age of terrorism and IMO that shouldn't mean stripping rights, it should mean being more aware of potential threats and taking measures to protect yourself and others be it additional security at events or whatever else is deemed necessary that can be done without infringing on the rights of others.
Wouldnt the "Islamic State" claim anything they could get their hands on, whether its true or not? I mean, if your aim is to terrorize, then wouldnt it make sense to act like you were behind anything that created terror? They get nothing out of saying they werent involved...but they build on their reputation and increase fear by saying they are involved.
