CBS has the US Open final at 3pm, so no afternoon games on CBS. And, there's usually only one or two games max on the same channel/time with the GAME OF THE WEEK throughout the season (which on paper is usually the 2nd best game of the week behind the SNF one), thus you get this Sunday's situation (which is very similar to the last however many years the US Open final has coincided with the first sunday of the NFL).
This also gives us the weird circumstance where another game is televised while the Texans are at home.
Yeah, it is weird. I guess in this case, NFL rules that say there has to be at least one game on each channel supersedes the no games during a home team's game window. Since there's no 3pm CBS game, and the Texans game is on Fox, there has to be a game on CBS at noon. The last time this could have happened was 2006, when they opened up at home against the Eagles (presuming the US Open still had their finals on the same day).
KC, CHI and NE all lost. Wow. And I thought STL had a good defense. Minny ran roughshod all over them.
Derrick Johnson tore his Achilles tendon. If you hadn't already, stick a fork in the Chiefs. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11483401/derrick-johnson-kansas-city-chiefs-carted-hurt-achilles
Ben Tate already injured? Wow, didn't think he'd get hurt that fast. It was going to happen but week 1? Geez. Glad he's gone.
