I didn't think this was a big deal at all from the start (on the nfl- think they should either let the qb's male their footballs how they want, or nfl control them entirely) and was laughing at Goodell yet again for waiting to see how the public reacted first before acting, but wow the pats are making it so much worse. They are now the most embarrassing party with some of these explanations. Just let the lawyers do the arguing, and only in the appeal.

I guess; but they did try to keep one of the most popular teams from moving to the second largest media market and global entertainment capital. Business is much more about power, leverage, paperwork and precedent than popularity.

Who would that be? Also, wouldn't this give credence to the whole "the NFL is mindful of how it treats its most popular commodities" things?

Well I've heard two motives for that.

One is that Goodell has been dropping the hammer on black players for a long time and that this gave him the opportunity to do the same to basically one of the golden boy, white players of the league. That in some way this gives him credibility with most of the players of the league again after several years of a contentious relationship with the players.

Second is that these investigations/punishments are the league office's time to shine so to speak, like their bowl game. They don't get any attention until something like this comes up and they see this as their moment to make their splash or what have you.

The headset issue is fascinating. Just how much cheating do they do after all?

If you can imagine it, they've thought about it. If the likelihood of getting caught is small enough, they've tried it.

Uh, no. You're obsessed with race, specifically the blacks.

I was simply relaying a comment that I heard from Tony Kornheiser on PTI and he doesn't exactly have your reputation for race baiting so it seemed plausible.
