The concept of an "extra point" is so stupid. Team works so hard to "score" and the crowd goes wild but oh wait, we haven't quite tied the game or possibly won. The PAT is a stupid technicality that kills the mood after an amazing score. Just switch to the proposed TD 7, a conversion 8, and a missed conversion 6. No effect on today's game, it achieves the same point effect without the charade of a PAT. A missed more difficult PAT would just kill the emotion of an amazing TD. We care about amazing TDs not kickers!!!!

I say just get rid of the extra point and make teams go for 2 every time. That would be more exciting to watch. 43 yard extra point is still boring to watch.
And its just inherently dumb to make a 43 yard kick worth 1 point, when other kicks in the game that are shorter than that are worth 3 points.
How about rate the length of the kick, whether it be a PAT or a field goal. One point---Goal line to 25 yard line/PAT placed on 20 Two points--25-40 yards/PAT placed on the 35 Three points--Beyond 40 yards/PAT placed on 45 You choose the PAT you want to attempt. Field goals at that point value from where you kick Should make for interesting strategizing. Hmmm...
Why not just make the PAT 30 or 35 yards instead of 20 meaning it still should be routine but not automatic and if the weather is bad there could be a serious debate to go for 2 43 yards is r****ded
I'd like to see whoever scored the touchdown be forced to be the kicker. I'm sure that would bring down the percentages, but who knows how much it would bring them down.
That's actually a chaotically hilarious/awesome idea. Of course if you score with a guy that can't kick, that would just pigeonhole you into going for two.
this is way too gimmicky for me. keep TD's at 6 points. just put the extra point on the 20 yard line or something. 2 point conversions can stay on the 2 yard line.
No, that's his origin story; he replaced Ian Howfield, who missed a field goal when they and the Redskins both had 7 wins. Redskin's Greatest Games - November 3, 1991: Who is Jack Pardee? The Game The Aftermath Howfield "cried all the way to the bank" according to my Algebra teacher.
Other than the DH does baseball make rule changes this frequently? I think at some point the league should maintain continuity of rules and game flow to let some sense of tradition kick in.
They constantly tinker with the strike zone, they've raised/lowered/raised/lowered the pitching mound, they've changed the way they manufacture the balls themselves (combined with newer technologies like humidifiers), stadiums constantly change their wall dimensions making it easier or harder to hit a HR (which is a form of "chaining the rules"), no more catcher collisions, instant replay... yes, baseball has plenty of adjustments through the years.
They'd still largely be automatic from the 20. Can't compare FG data as the situations/pressure entirely different between most FG's and extra points. And frankly, its not really a "gimmick" as the only thing that changes is that the extra point is NOT kicked. Everything else falls exactly in line with how the game is played and scored now, thus causing the least disruption to the game. Moving the kick back a few yards, which may lead to them moving it back further if the kickers are just as successful... or raising the cross-bar... or having the kickers kick with their bad foot... etc... all of that is far more "gimmicky".

Kicks will be from the 15-yard line (33-yard try), 2-pt tries will be from 2-yard line & defense can return.
— Tim Twentyman (@ttwentyman) May 19, 2015
NFL owners approved the Competition Committee's proposal on extra points for the 2015 season. The NFL announced the extra point will now be kicked from the 15-yard line with two-point conversions remaining at the 2-yard line. The new rule also gives the defense the ability to score two points on returns. According to the rule change, if the defense returns a failed two-point try for a touchdown (i.e. on an interception), they will be awarded two points. Under the previous rule the ball was dead on a failed try. The approved rule, which was decided on a 30-2 vote by NFL owners, was one of three proposals considered by owners Tuesday at the NFL's Spring League Meeting. http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story...-2point-conversions-to-2?campaign=Twitter_atn
