"we gonna be patient in coach hiring" - moreh all good coaches are picked up by other teams "we have believe in JBB as our head coach" - Moreh
Is now down to Jeff Van Gundy, Jim Boylen and Ettore Messina are the good ones left. My preference is Kevin Ollie because he's a natural leader and will turn things around and change James Harden. But if they're not interested in Kevin Ollie, then they should take a good look at Jim Boylen who's had great success as an assistant with the Pacers under Frank Vogel and with the Spurs in 2013 and 2014. He is very familiar in Houston because he was also an assistant under Rudy Tomjanovich during his Rockets years. Jim Boylen should be taken seriously.
I believe Brian Cook is still available. In Luke Walton's place, he could've led the Warriors to the same record. He's an ex-Laker AND he's very familiar with taking gratuitous three pointers.
I believe Jarron Collins is still available. He could be the next Kerr/Walton. In fact, he's served under both as a Warriors assistant. Why wait until next year and he's the next big Warriors assistant to get a head coaching job? You can get him now! He comes from Stanford, so obviously a smart guy. Had a nice 10 year career. (Please don't mind that he played for Utah.) He's worked his way up from Clippers scout to Warriors player development coach to Warriors assistant. GET HIM SIGNED NOW!!!
ESPN loves to talk about how great of a coach Carlisle is but you never hear about his assistants being in high demand like you do for pop and others. Surprising to me, especially with Stots having success in Portland. Sup with that?
[rquoter]Calvin Watkins' unofficial list 1. J.B. Bickerstaff: He took over 11 games into the season for Kevin McHale and finished the regular season, 37-34. He was liked by the players and front office, however he had an inconsistent rotation and his team barely got into the postseason. Bickerstaff wasn’t afraid to call out his players or defend them. 2. Vinny Del Negro: He’s embraced analytics and could be a dark horse candidate. Del Negro, in five seasons, coached the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Clippers. He clashed with the front office in Chicago, but who hasn’t. He went 10-19 in the postseason, which includes a seven-game series win against Memphis in 2012. 3. Chris Finch: After McHale was let go, Finch was elevated to associate head coach under Bickerstaff and ran the offense. He developed a strong relationship with the players and front office. He went 67-23 in two seasons with the Rockets’ D-League team and has coached overseas. 4. Ettore Messina: One of Gregg Popovich’s top assistants with San Antonio. Messina won four Euroleague titles and has been an assistant coach with the Lakers and Spurs. Messina would come with a fantastic recommendation and is used to dealing with veteran players, which would help. 5. Nick Nurse: A top assistant with Toronto, he spent two seasons with the Rockets’ D-League team, Rio Grande Valley. In his six seasons affiliated with D-League teams, 23 players were called up to the NBA. The Rockets are familiar with him, but is he a big enough name to satisfy the fan base? 6. Kevin Ollie: The Connecticut coach might receive plenty of calls from NBA teams with vacancies. He played with James Harden in Oklahoma City, so that might be the hook for him with Houston. He won a national title in 2014 with UConn. 7. Kelvin Sampson: He is currently the coach at the University of Houston. He spent several years as an assistant coach in Milwaukee and with the Rockets before going back to the college game. He has a strong relationship with Harden, who attended a few of Sampson’s college games. Sampson’s fiery style might be something the Rockets need. 8. Ime Udoka: Another top assistant for the Spurs. Udoka has been an assistant coach with the Spurs since 2012 and has played with various NBA teams during his career. He was influential in helping LaMarcus Aldridge make his decision in free agency when he signed with the Spurs. 9. Jeff Van Gundy: ESPN’s Marc Stein has reported the former Rockets coach and current ESPN analyst is one of the favorites. Van Gundy hasn’t coached since the 2006-07 season, and in 748 games with the New York Knicks and Rockets, he won 430 games. He’s noted for a slowdown offense, but is willing to make adjustments based on the personnel. 10. Frank Vogel: His contract ended with the Indiana Pacers and there its unclear if he will return. Vogel was an assistant in Boston and Philadelphia before joining the Pacers. In six seasons, Vogel is 250-181 with a 31-30 postseason mark. Others to consider: David Blatt, Jim Boylen, Patrick Ewing, Jeff Hornacek and Jay Larranaga.[/rquoter]

[rQUOTEr]• Speaking of paydays, Portland coach Terry Stotts should be due for one in the not-so-distant future. Yet Stotts, the former head coach in Atlanta and Milwaukee who came to the Blazers in 2012 after four years as a Dallas Mavericks assistant, has a team option on his contract for next season that has yet to be picked up. What’s more, according to a person with knowledge of his situation, he has yet to discuss a possible extension with Blazers management. The person expressed optimism that that a deal will eventually get done, but one never truly knows until it happens. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of that process. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...y-bradley-terry-stotts-nba-playoffs/83844978/[/rQUOTEr] [rQUOTEr]Tyronn Lue yet to sign new contract since taking over as Cavs coach As the Cavaliers prepare to face the Atlanta Hawks in the second round of the playoffs, head coach Tyronn Lue continues to guide the team without having signed a new contract since he took over for David Blatt, multiple sources said this week. According to a source close to Lue, he fully expects to be the head coach of the Cavs next season and beyond, no matter what happens the remainder of the postseason. The source said Lue currently has no interest in any of the head-coaching vacancies around the league in Houston, New York and Sacramento.[/rQUOTEr]
Linked candidates so far: Chris Finch Sam Cassell Lionel Hollins Vinny Del Negro Jeff Van Gundy Jeff Hornacek Stephen Silas Frank Vogel Besides Kevin Ollie & Kelvin Sampson [and maybe Jay Wright], what other "prominent" college candidates?
I definitely cosign this one. He knows this group and they're strengths and weaknesses better than anyone else on this list.
[rQUOTEr]The Rockets have also met with Associate Head coach Chris Finch and former Rockets star Sam Cassell, according to the person familiar with talks so far. But several individuals that have been involved in the start of the process said that the Rockets have only started to line up interviews with a large variety of coaches, including former head coaches, current assistants and college coaches. Former Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy is expected to be high on the Rockets list of targets, two individuals with knowledge of the team's thinking said this week. Pacers coach Frank Vogel, whose contract is up and with few signs that Pacers president Larry Bird will seek to bring him back, could also be a candidate. He went through a seven-hour interview with Morey in 2011 when he was a Pacers interim coach. The Rockets have also shown interest this week in former Suns coach Jeff Hornacek and former Nets and Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins, though interviews had not been scheduled. http://www.chron.com/sports/rockets...-pulls-himself-from-consideration-7394082.php[/rQUOTEr]
