I know we've been chasing Cousins, would be fine if we settled for Favors. Doubt they're dangling anything more than the Laker's first and salary filler for Brooks, though. If we run out of trade options, I wouldn't be against: Yao, Brooks, Hill (plus Patterson?) for Favors, Murphy
The Nets are THE team out there. They want Brooks; do they still want Scola? Not that I'm keen on trading Luis. He works hard and doesn't show as much of that "will-I-be-traded?" distraction out there on the floor. But now that the Nets forced New York to surrender its roster for Melo and Billups, they're in a position to negotiate deals that might actually happen. Favors? Yes. Murphy's expiring? Yes. Be nice to get more, though. Brooks and Scola can play NOW. Favors, he's a work in progress.
Y'all are dreaming. If we could get Favors for Brooks and Scola, DM would pull the trigger in a second.
If you can get Favors in a larger package deal, do it. No question. Favors is a "get a superstar free" card that you can flip when the time is right (like Al Jefferson for KG and the 5th pick for Ray Allen). That is, assuming Favors doesn't jordanhill himself in his playing time opportunities and hurt the potential that GMs see in him. As for Brooks himself... could you get the 2012 Golden State first rounder (top-7 protected) that the Nets hold? It's top-7 protected in 2012 and 2013, then top-6 protected in 2014. If you don't get it by then, you're screwed (becomes two second rounders). May be wishful thinking on my part, but the Nets have picks to spare.
I'd do Scola+Brooks for Favors too. I think it helps both teams. The Nets just want to be better, be relevant...Plus no way they are trading their upcoming lotto pick so they can at least replace Favors perhaps even with Perry Jones. Rockets get a big man with upside. Although I'm a bit worried. Lee...Williams...Are we becoming the Nets???
Let's take Outlaw off of their hands. It will save them money and we have our Long tall 3. AB Hill Scola for Favors Outlaw and a second round pick. This frees up room at the 4 with Pat and Hayes and we put Favors at 5.
Back in December, BimaThug wrote a good breakdown on why Scola is not going to be easy to trade this year. http://rockets.clutchfans.net/1082/december-15-the-rockets-and-the-start-of-nba-trade-season/
Back in the Summer: http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nba/news/story?id=5363686 So we do have a chance at Favors, I guess
Scola >> Favors "But he has the potential to be better than Luis!!!" -- Potential, in most cases, isn't generally fully realized. I could see the Nets having some interest there. Clutch, I'm not sure how applicable that is when we're talking about a potential Favors deal. Scola's not easy tradeable because he's a BYC player and his salary in trades counts for 1/2 of what it is. Generally, guys you'd trade Scola for will be making a lot of money. Favors, being on the rookie scale contract, lines up more with Scola's BYC than other trade targets might.
I imagine the offer is Devin Harris & a draft pick for Brooks and an expiring (probably Jeffries). But, as always, just my guess.
I hope the Nets bring the lubricant. If you have 5 first rounders and a future star in Favors, as well as Harris and Lopez, you are playing with fire around Daryl.
